The Dongers Club – Tue – April 13th

The second round of the April Dongers Club Contest is tonight.  If you missed round one then you’ll really want to get into tonight’s to have a shot at the Leaderboard.

https://www.draftkings.com/draft/contest/106464659

We have some scheduling notes for tonight’s slate.  The Mets and Phillies are rolling through double headers today so they aren’t included and the Mariners / Orioles game has been removed from both sites because it’s also a straight through double header and the start time of the second game could come before lock.

WEATHER

Expect the roof in Milwaukee to be closed again.

No major notable issues.

TREVOR BAUER (DK: $10,200 / FD: $11,000)

Are the Rockies on the slate and on the road?  Yes.   Can we roster the opposing pitcher against him?  Yes.  Is he alive and someone we have heard of?  Uh, Yes.   Wait, is it Tanner Roark?   No.   Oh, it’s Trevor fricken Bauer at home in cool conditions?  Oh.  Alright.  My dog could tell you this is the #1 play tonight and he’s currently barking at some piece of plastic blowing in the wind.  Every SP is cheap tonight on DK so don’t sweat the price tag there and although some cheaper options on FD may be equal to Bauer it doesn’t mean he’s a bad play there either.

LUCAS GIOLITO (DK: $9,800 / FD: $9,800)

One could nitpick that the Indians don’t strikeout a ton and that this could be a pitchers duel making the win a troublesome lock.  I counter that Giolito will not have an issue with strikeouts as he never has so long as the opponent isn’t Minnesota.  His CSW% is the second highest on the slate, second only to Shane Bieber on the other side.

LUIS CASTILLO (DK:  $7,100 / FD:  $8,400)

If you can get a 7+ strikeout arm for around ~7k on Draftkings in a park that is favorable for pitching (especially in April) and a lineup that’s on its weaker split then you take it and you move on saying thank you along the way.  Likely winds up being a 2-1 game so not sure Castillo finishes with the win but he’ll get enough points through IP, limited hits and high strikeouts.

Other pitchers on the radar:   It’s a deep pitching slate so I figured I would mention others who grade out well for doing extra lineups tonight but I would not go here above the three listed before them for primary 1-3 lineups.  There is a ton of value in the OF tonight, you can make paying up work.

  • Brandon Woodruff
  • Jack Flaherty
  • Kyle Hendricks

Not touching

Ryan Yarbrough … Yeah, sure, anyone vs Texas is just as good as anyone vs the Rockies on the road.  But two things I can’t get past thinking about with Yarbrough.  Number one is that he’s always around 5 IP tops and has too much history just getting into trouble and with it being a deep slate I’ll find other safer options out there with more upside.  And second, I can’t trust a pitcher making his first start after a gender reveal done in the stadium where he is going to pitch.  Giant red flag.

ASTROS

Bregman/Tucker/Gurriel

An excellent offense against LHP gets one who gets either strikeouts or hard hits against him.  Boyd is backed by one of the weakest bullpens in the game, so last nights chalk that got bailed out should be looked at first tonight for the best full stack play on the board.

GOOD VALUE / GAME STACKS

MARLINS / BRAVES

Anderson/Cooper & Freeman/Ozuna

Tonight is a night you want to hunt for good weather and mediocre to weak bullpens.  We have great weather in Atlanta and the Braves should have the benefit of facing the Marlins bullpen more tonight.  They’re the side to lean upon to score more runs but the Marlins will hit Fried and they’re still the best value on the slate — which helps for those who rightly want to just secure two solid arms in lineups today.  Right back to the heart of the Marlins order — which is full or RH hitters vs the Lefty Fried.

RAYS & RANGERS

Meadows/Lowe/Tsutsugo/Adames and Gallo/Whiz Khalifa (Kiner-Falafa for you new people) on the other side.

Tampa is my “sneaky” team tonight if you will.  Kyle Gibson went from horrific to really good and should go back to being a target for us.  He relies on his sinker and has trouble getting Swinging Strikes against LH batters, so Austin Meadows and Brandon Lowe are must plays against Gibson in a Rays lineup, but I like plugging in Yoshi Tsutsugo and Willy Adames for value here too.

Alot of Blue Jays rank quite highly here today and I had them listed initially as a stack but pulled them out as they’re safer for just one offs.

CATCHER

  1. Kurt Suzuki
  2. Salvador Perez
  3. Find the cheapest girl and take her home, or just play Wilson Ramos in the cleanup spot vs reverse eggs.

FIRST BASE

  1. Vladdy G Jr. … Just so consistent right now and the position isn’t that great generally.  He’s the best pay up option here.
  2. Yuli Gurriel
  3. Jesus Aguilar

SECOND BASE

  1. Brandon Lowe
  2. Nick Solak
  3. DJ LeMahieu … Struggled big time last night.  With pay up SP he gets ignored tonight.

THIRD BASE

  1. Alex Bregman
  2. Brian Anderson
  3. Cavan Biggio

SHORTSTOP

  1. Carlos Correa
  2. Bo Bichette
  3. Isiah Kiner-Falefa

OUTFIELD – MT RUSHMORE

  1. Joey Gallo .. Always a sneaky play vs LHP and virtually every pitch Yarbrough throws to LH batters is a sinker down an in.  Gallo’s wheel house.
  2. Marcell Ozuna … Duvall had his fun last night, Ozuna has his tonight.
  3. Jorge Soler … Has been very quiet all season long but Bundy is a good matchup for him and Salvy
  4. Mike Trout … I probably should just stop writing him up at this point, getting old.

OUTFIELD – Tier 2

  1. Austin Meadows
  2. Kyle Tucker
  3. Nick Castellanos
  4. Randy Arozarena

OUTFIELD – Value

  1. Garrett Cooper / Adam Duvall
  2. Joey Gallo
  3. Akil Baddoo
  4. Justin Upton
