The Dongers Club – July 28th (Early)

DraftKings has a four game early slate today, which does not include the early game of the Red Sox/Jays double header make up today.  The FanDuel slate is composed of just two games and I sent them a scathing email about it last night but I doubt anything will change.  What did change was them deciding to unlock players in that Boston/Toronto game, something they claim they have done but to be honest they haven’t done it consistently and there is zero email notification when they unlock players or not.  So, just keep playing FanDuel at your own risk as common sense and customer experience is clearly not a priority with them.

Here are the four games we’re looking at

  • Detroit at Minnesota:  Really warm, really good hitting weather
  • St. Louis at Cleveland
  • Houston at Seattle
  • Oakland at San Diego

PITCHING

From a pitching stand point we’re able to break it down as such.  This is once again a short slate where I would strongly prefer to put my eggs in one basket and game stack pitching in one of the games while looking to stack up hitters in another.  It’s been the best recipe for success and the way the games project that really looks like the process today.

I say eggs, and of course, we have Jake “Eggs” Odorizzi on the slate facing Yusei Kikuchi in what has been a very high scoring series.  Eggs has turned from being a reverse splits guy to getting hit hard by lefties and doing well vs righties this season.  Overall his pitchtype breakdown looks very solid against Mariners lineup and I like Kikuchi to have a solid game against the hot Astros, but he doesn’t strike out enough to love much upside here.  This game won’t be as high scoring as the prior two games but it’s not the primary one for SP to me.

Kwang-Hyun Kim vs Zach Plesac on the other hand is my favorite SP stack.  Kim has been pitching extremely well and Plesac has struggled at home but is good against RH bats, which is the entire lineup that the Cardinals have.  This is my #1 SP stack spot today with the Astros/Mariners game being second.

HITTING

The top game today is Detroit vs Minnesota.  It’s hot and two bad pitchers on the hill with offenses doing enough right now to trust them.   The other game which draws my attention is Oakland vs San Diego.  Oakland’s RH bats should do damage against Blake Snell today and San Diego is your good team getting overlooked today.
