The Dongers Club – July 9th

Just a heads up on content schedule.  No early article tomorrow (Saturday) but a main article for the evening (7pm) slate and then normal article on Sunday.   There will be some site upgrades during the All-Star break as well, but nothing that should be really impactful.

We have added NASCAR (a familiar face doing it, not me, I just know guys turn left and Joey Logano, Lagona? whatever, he has a cool name…) and will be starting up some NFL and College Football preview stuff at the end of July.

WEATHER

All games should play without weather issues today

Yo, that was a fun pitching duel last night, was it not?  I mean, I don’t know about you but woooosh that was quite the rush, am I right?

Alex Cobb

Cobb faced the Mariners back on June 5th and had a 34.7% CSW in that game.  They’re a team he should match-up decently against and he has had 6 days rest to recover from throwing 112 pitches last week against the Orioles.  Of the pay up options tonight it’s Cobb and Jake Odorizzi which just feels fucking weird, but give me Cobb vs the Mariners in Seattle much more over Eggs vs the Yankees in a hype game.

Kenta Maeda

Maeda put together his best start on Sunday since coming back off the IL against the Royals, and now he will no doubt be the highest owned pitcher at home vs the Tigers — who will 100% be pesky tonight but I cannot find a ton of guys projected to go high in terms of points today so Kenta can get 2.5x for us and we’ll take it.

Alek Manoah

Huge test tonight for the young star who I’ve already labeled with a fairly high comparison and he very much looked the part in his last start going 7 innings with 10 strikeouts at home.  Unfortunately that start came against the very same team he faces tonight in Tampa and that in lies the big test.  Tampa has a team of good enough hitters and is an organization who makes good adjustments.  They have to make those adjustments tonight and thus Manoah is not at the top of my list, but his talent (and the Rays higher K% against RHP) is what can still get him over at only $7,000 on DK today.  Consider him in the pool, but not the 10 that he was last weekend….

Brad Keller

Something changed in Keller’s last start vs the Twins….

YEAH!  He didn’t Suck!

No, no…   What changed is he threw his slider more than his fastball for the first time all season.  Which is note-worthy because his fastball is well below average and his slider is easily his best out pitch and one that is very good against LHB.  A lot of this supposedly had to do with his grip being better — which is ironic of course given the sticky stuff changes — I could insert some really not PG rated comment here about Cal Eldred and his love affair with Brad Keller leading to Keller having sticky hands, but well, shit I just planted the seed in your imagination so lets move along now.  It should be a very comfortable evening in Cleveland, the Indians offense is less than stellar outside of a white hot Franmil Reyes.  For $6,000 I believe Keller has another top level performance today pitching a very long clean game in a low scoring Royals win.

Chicago White Sox

Chicago gets to walk into Camden Yards with their not so good lineup and will feel like they are the all-stars of the galaxy this weekend.  Eloy isnt back yet and they are still dropping like flies but fortunately for them they get the Orioles and start off with Jorge Lopez.  He has really pissed me off lately because he has gone from Mr. Sometimes Good/Sometimes Shit to the same damn thing every time out.  Lopez has given up 4-5 ER in 4 of his last 5 and is somehow, someway going to finish with 4 2/3 IP tonight with 4 walks, 8 hits and 5 ER allowed.

LA Dodgers

LA is back home against the horrible Diamondbacks pitching staff and if I am paying up its gonna be Mookie-Muncy-Turner as they blitz the Diamondbacks tonight back in friendly warm LA.

Philadelphia Phillies

I told you Garrett Richards was gonna pitch better out on the west coast last weekend and he did.  Now, he wasn’t like, great or anything, but the fact is the BoSox righty proved that he has no right pitching still in Fenway Park and …. well shit, he’s back in Fenway Park tonight.  Stack up Phils.
