The Dongers Club – August 11th (Early)

An early four game slate followed by the main slate later this evening.  Early today the four games (on DK, 3 on FD) include three central/mid-west games and a west coast PETCO Park afternoon tilt.  No weather issues in the four games which are listed below:

  • White Sox at Twins
  • Yankees at Royals
  • Rockies at Astros
  • Marlins at Padres

If you are playing this early slate, you have very limited options on pitching because two guys are way above the field today.  Lance Lynn and Framber Valdez are easily the pitchers that 80% of the field will lock in today.  Despite both being the two highest priced guys I would expect them to have this justified ownership.

Lynn is the one I wouldn’t consider fading at all, even in warm Minnesota today he should navigate the Twins lineup with ease, while Valdez is extremely talented he has been showing signs of slowing down of late and grades negatively on the model in terms of his DCPA K%, xWOBA and xSLG against Colorado.  So the edge play is to fade Valdez with Colorado hitters if you do decide to fade him today.

Brady Singer is returning from an IL stint and he was being babied before that and should be completely ignored for consideration this afternoon.  In the same game, the Yankees are letting Deivi Garcia also return to the bump haven thrown only 8 innings in the bigs this season and he too is someone I wouldn’t trust to get over 10 points today — also in a very warm Kauffman Stadium.

Sandy Alcantara vs Ryan Weathers out in PETCO park is the most logical spot to consider for a second arm today, but Sandy on the road has had some major blow up game sand is coming off a nice little -17 start, so jumping back into the elite category isn’t gonna happen but he can give you 5+ innings today with minimal damage.   Ryan Weathers is trash and Antonio Senzatela is facing Houston so lets just assume that’s a bad scenario for him.

This all leads us back to Bailey Ober.  The White Sox have said that Luis Robert will get an off day before they travel to Iowa — The Field of Dreams — to play New York tomorrow.  I don’t think we can expect the Twins to steal another game from Minnesota, but Ober would be the player I roll with in a SP game stack (a good short slate strategy) if you decide to pivot off Framber.

SP Rankings

  1. Lance Lynn
  2. Framber Valdez
  3. Bailey Ober

Well shit, Lance Lynn has been swapped out for Reynaldo Lopez.  He isn’t stretched out enough and this slate is now one that I would highly advise just passing on but Sandy Alcantara becomes someone we consider in our player pool for pitching options.

Just read between the lines in what I wrote above and you can ascertain where the hitting should come from this afternoon, and it’s going to likely come from the Yankee-Royal game but the White Sox and Astros are the two main chalk teams who have some one offs that make a ton of sense.

Simply put the most logical route today is Lynn with Framber and spread out the exposure among the positional breakdowns.

The alternative larger field strategy is to fade Framber Valdez but do not do it without Story and other Colorado Rockies to double down on your leverage.

Joey Gallo is the core must own.
