The Dongers Club – August 17th

Full 15 game slate tonight.  For those who are in the second round of the Dongers Club Championship you should have received your invite link.  If you did not receive it then please DM me on Twitter (@steve_renner) or jump in the Discord and message me there.

WEATHER

Warm, muggy, but okay for baseball.

LOGAN WEBB

I really like Logan Webb tonight and could see a scenario where he matches Burnes as my favorite pitcher when it’s all said and done.  Webb has gotten stronger of late and that’s to be expected since he missed a good portion of the season (April and June) and is basically at the rate where most other guys were back in June.  At home in friendly San Francisco he’s sported a near 30% strikeout rate, a sub .300 xWOBA and a paltry 0.72 xISO.   Blah, blah, stats this, stats that.  The Mets lineup is not to be feared either, so with Webb we have our #1 today.

VLAD GUTIERREZ

Can you live with 6 innings, 6 strikeouts, 2 ER and a solo HR to Jayson Heyward?  Because that’s what I project tonight for the other Vladdy G who is most certainly getting the win too.  Because, let me recap how things have gone for the Cubs of late.  I’ll tell you what happened last night, they just got their asses kicked.  Alright, it was shameful and disgusting.  They couldn’t do diddly poo, can’t pitch, can’t hit, couldn’t complete a pass, couldn’t run the ball, didn’t try to run the ball, I don’t know who the hell they think they are when they play like this.  Everytime they came up to the plate they came up and hit home runs.  It’s pitiful, absolute pitiful, the en, the coaching aught to be ashamed, the players aught to be ashamed.  It was a disgraceful performance in my opinion.  That sucked.

CORBIN BURNES

While I don’t think you have to have the best pitcher on the board tonight, there’s also no reason to not consider him against a RH heavy Cardinals lineup which is back in their pitcher friendly home of St. Louis and has not exactly dominated Burnes in previous outings.

FADES

Tyler Anderson:  Don’t mess with an Italian Woman while she is cooking and don’t mess with Texas in August!  No, seriously, I got no desire to pick on the Rangers right now who are sneaky as hell of late once again.

WILL PITCH BETTER THAN YOUR AVERAGE PERSON THINKS

  • Nathan Eovaldi – Very close to being in consideration.
  • Dylan Bundy
  • Sandy Alcantara
  • German Marquez

I will fully admit that I am likely out in left field compared to the “industry”, but I have no fucking problem doing that on a full slate Tuesday.  I find myself actually wanting to put multiple lineups in this time of year because diversification matters more these days.

ASTROS

Altuve, Correa, Gurriel

Oh lord.  Tall lefty Daniel Lynch takes the mound to try and tame the Astros in warm Kauffman with wind blowing out.  I’m on them tonight and expect them to be that team which has a massive inning or three.

PHILLIES

Jean Segura, JT Realmuto, Bryce Harper, Andrew McCutchen

The Phillies are in a great spot tonight and I don’t think anyone will touch them.  Arizona is the worst bullpen in the league and Caleb Smith is expected to start things off for the D’Backs — he has been bad in all splits and should not have any luck vs Philly tonight.

BREWERS

Escobar, Yelich, Adames, Wong

Milwaukee might not get much attention against Wainwright who has pitched well but I got a gut feeling we see Escobar,  Yelich and Adames come up big for the Brewers as they try to put a fork in the end of the Cardinals season.

INDIANS/TWINS

Ramorez, Rosario, Ramos

Kepler, Rooker, Sano

Couple young and rough arms pitching in Eli and Bailey.   Attack Eli Morgan with Kepler-ROoker-Polanco who are all very cheap and attack Ober with Ramirez, Ramos and Zimmer.  If there is a game to just stack up tonight it’s the one out there in Target Field.
