The Dongers Club – August 18th

Ten games, with no weather issues tonight.  We woke up some bats earlier with Franmil, Sano and Myers, so will the RH power theme continue tonight?  Let’s find out…

CHARLIE MORTON

Uncle Charlie is continuing to pitch extremely well and I see no reason he can’t have a nice clean and long outing against the Marlins tonight.  Although he does have a 28.3% strikeout rate on the road this year, which is funny since he’s on Atlanta, but really, 18-24 is the target spot for Charlie with upside into the high 20’s.

SHOHEI OHTANI

Ohtani is affordable on DK as an SP2 for $8,600 considering similar type pitchers vs the Tigers should be near 10k.  I like the other side pitching wise in this game equally, but no reason to nitpick anything against Ohtani today.

TARIK SKUBAL

This is the best spot Skubal has been in all season, with one other start grading out near this and he dominated that night (vs Texas).  His last two starts have shown the potential that the Tigers felt he had all along and with Ohtani likely gaining some ownership today he’ll give you good leverage in contests too.

Also expect to pitch well

Jack Flaherty vs Freddy Peralta

Nice pitchers duel on tap tonight in St. Louis, just not grading into my top three of options available.  I still think St. Louis is going to slowly bring Flaherty into form.  Peralta would be the one I lean in this spot.

HOUSTON ASTROS

First thing I did on this slate was scroll to see who the Astros were going to pummel today for the Royals after they haven’t quite lived up to my expectations the first two games.  Ah, fuck, they play Brady Singer…

Just lock in Yordan Alvarez right away and don’t bother with being cute here.  I can see Houston getting enough men on base against Singer who is my biggest flop this season as I trusted Kansas City to work with him on developing a third pitch and it just hasn’t happened.  Houston will get to him the second time through if he remains in or they’ll get to hammer on some schmuck out of the pen.  All in on the ‘Stros tonight.

SEATTLE MARINERS

Haniger, France, Seager, Kelenic, Toro

Last week Marco G and Mike F faced off out in Seattle in an afternoon game and I wrote up that they would pitch well — they did.  Let’s make it 2 for 2 but this time lets write up that they’re gonna get pummeled.  The roof in Arlington will not be open tonight, but I still like the Mariners to have a good contact/power night against Folty.   Don’t overlook the RH power here.

ATLANTA BRAVES

d’Arnaud, Duvall, Albies

If you have kids and specifically Boys you know what kind of wild ride they can be.  They’re so innocent when they are young, then they are breaking stuff left and right in the pre-teens age but fun to coach and watch play sports and then they become teenagers/young adults and they just take on a mind of their own and you just sit there and pretend to be confused as to where they could have possibly learned this behavior from even know you know damn well where it came from…   I say this because when I look at the Braves lineup right now tonight with TDA back, Ozzie on fire and Duvall against his former team I was reminded of an incident this past summer on vacation with my Boys (19 & 23) down at the lake.  We had just finished eating dinner at the local spot on the water and I come down to find my wife and some other drunk lady (she was hammered let me tell you, the other lady,  not my wife, well… nevermind) talking and long and short of it my boys were cracking up.  Why?  I don’t know, they somehow both said to this lady that her 12 year old boy “Definitely Fucks” and the lady just didn’t quite get the reference.  I did.  I knew damn well that they didn’t mean it in a negative way, in fact they meant it positively.  Supposedly this lady was going on and on about how her kid was so good at Baseball, was jacking up and doing 100 push-ups a day and I honestly don’t remember I was probably busy looking at my phone cursing some Pirates pitcher that night — but none the less the point of the story is that the Braves lineup right now most definitely fucks and should do some fucking against Jesus Luzardo, and that is of course — a compliment.
