The Dongers Club – August 21st (Early)

We have nine games early on DraftKings today and FanDuel has decided they don’t want money so we’re not even acknowledging what they did.   Just don’t play there and give them any sense of feeling like they did the right thing.

GERRIT COLE & MAX SCHERZER

There is no big secret on this early slate in terms of pitching.  Cole vs the Twins and Max vs the dead Mets are both in day games so there’s some concern that they might serve up an extra HR or two but they’re both really strong plays and guys I would project to go over 20 fantasy points today.   So it will come down to deciding if rostering two 10k+ pitchers together works out with your hitting builds over everything else and the way the hitting breaks down for early I prefer this to be a one off slate.  We want one of Max and Cole and I’m not going to give you some bold take that one destroys the other today because I just don’t see it — they’re equal and pick one.

My choice is Cole as I like the under in the Twins-Yankees game and the over in the Mets-Dodgers game

ERIC LAUER

I wish that Lauer was not $8,600 but here we are.  He’ll shut down the Nationals today and Milwaukee is the most sure thing bet I can think of this afternoon.   I’d be shocked if he hit 20 fantasy points but I also would not expect less than a 16 here today.

JAKE ODORIZZI

Sleeper picks today can be pretty dicey to consider.  There’s going to be some chalk on Triston McKenzie coming off his career best start but I am not chasing there and there’s going to be some who might want to get cute with some other cheap options but Odorizzi is going to be pitching with the roof closed in Houston and should actually be the best sneaky consideration against Seattle.  They don’t work counts enough to get him out of the game early and I can see a good 6 inning clean start from Afternoon Eggs.

What a night.  This is the ultimate “TIERS” night when it comes to offenses and I am usually one to recommend spreading things out on a big Friday night but I can definitely see value in locking into two teams in different tiers tonight and doing a 3-3-1-1 type build.

Toronto Blue Jays

Corey Dickerson, Marcus Semien, Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

Saturday afternoon’s in Toronto.  Vladdy homering last night was a good sign for this offense to start to wake up and Wily Peralta + worn down Tigers bullpen is a combination for a 7+ run game from Toronto today.

Milwaukee Brewers

Willy Adames, Christian Yelich, Avisail Garcia

Absolutely love Milwaukee who got shut down by Corbin last night but will welcome in Paola Espino, someone who doesn’t get a ton of swinging strikes.  Do not overlook the RH hitters here as they have fared well against Espino this season with a .285 ISO and 10 HR.  Willy Adames/Avisail Garcia should smash Espino and happy Yelich Saturday.
