The Dongers Club – August 7th

An 11 game slate of games today with no weather issues in sight.   We do have the second game of the Red Sox-Blue Jays double header on DraftKings as well, which will obviously be a 7-inning game.

I could definitely justify 6-7 pitchers tonight and none of them are standing out from each other.  The Mix includes Darvish, Urias, McLanahan, Garcia, Morton and Woodruff.  Of those six specifically Woodruff is the least likely in my mind to do damage tonight so I removed him right off the bat against a good team.

JULIO URIAS

It really is scary when you stop and realize that Julio Urias is the Dodgers 4th starter come the playoffs.  Realistically though he’s the second best arm on this staff and has finally been trusted to just go out and pitch this season — which is probably due to losing Dustin May and being forced to use Urias more honestly.  It has paid off, he has increased his metrics positively against RH batters this season and should see a heavy RH lineup tonight.  Don’t panic if they do that because it would mean no Ohtani (which would be stupid for the Angels), and it would mean Urias cruises in a 7-0 Dodger win.

YU DARVISH

His struggles were clear after the sticky stuff situation but more so I think age is creeping in now on Darvish more than anything.  However, the pitch-arsenal profile against the Diamondbacks projected lineup makes him a favorable top candidate today as well as pitching at home in friendly PETCO Park.  Over the last two seasons the Diamondbacks only have one consistent hitter against Darvish’s primary cutter, which is Nick Ahmed and they’ll likely have him batting very low in the lineup today so the only fear I have is Ketel Marte and there’s enough strikeouts scattered elsewhere for Darvish to post a solid score.  But he’s not putting up a 30.

Also expect to pitch well

Charlie Morton and Shane McLanahan

Value Arm

Tanner Houck … You wan’t a guy who is going to ball out with 2% ownership?  Tanner Houck in a 7 inning game is going to give the Jays flashbacks of facing Chris Sale, he is kinda the same pitcher only right handed and his big long stride delivery should have ball popping into the zone and getting tons of swing and misses.  If the Jays win the first game as I expect, then hammer the Sox and Houck tonight.

Tampa Bay Rays

Lowe, Meadows, Franco, Margot

Gimme Tampa, Gimme Tampa, Gimme Ta-aaamp-uhhh.  The Rays up in Camden Yards vs RHP Spenser Watkins, do I even need to mention who the Rays to play are here?  This should be obvious as heck.  Get out the shovel, grab the wheel barrow and start doing some landscaping because it’s a Meadows and Lowe day and don’t you Margot Wandering away from this group at 6:59 tonight when the tinker bell comes a knockin…

Houston Astros

Altuve, Alvarez, Diaz, Correa, Brantley

Michael Pineda.  That’s all.  No, seriously.  The Houston lineup is very affordable for what they can do vs Pineda when he isn’t allowed to cheat.  Alvarez/Brantley the primary guys but don’t overlook Aledmys Diaz at weak 3B

CATCHER

  1. Omar Narvaez
  2. Tucker Barnhardt

FIRST BASE

  1. CJ Cron … $4100 off a double dong game and facing a 2 pitch lefty in Coors Field.
  2. Joey Votto
  3. Colin Moran

SECOND BASE

  1. Brandon Lowe … Better to play him on FD, at $6100 on DK yes he’s in a great spot but of all the Rays I would force him in last there if you are tight on $
  2. Harold Castro … The Tigers are my favorite sneaky team tonight.  Morgan had a great start vs Toronto last time out and the wide eyed kid might try to think he is Jake deGrom today when he is in fact, not Jacob deGrom
  3. Jose Altuve

THIRD BASE

  1. Aledmys Diaz
  2. Brian Anderson
