Overview

We’ll get the Cup Series drivers hitting the road course for the second straight week just as we saw the Xfinity drivers do. Again, just as a refresher, the Indy Motor Speedway road course is a 2.44-mile 14-turn adventure that will span 82 laps on Sunday. Just like the Xfinity drivers, there will be same-day qualifying that will come into play as we inch closer to the playoffs.

Dominators

These are the drivers that we can typically expect to, you guessed it, dominate the race. When we think dominator we are looking for guys that will be in a position to lead a hefty amount of laps as well as be able to turn over fastest laps.

Chase Elliott ($11,000)

Regardless of the qualifying position, it’s pretty clear that Elliott is the standard right now as far as road course racing goes. He posted a second-place finish last week at Watkins Glen and in 17 road courses at the Cup level has seven wins and 10 top five’s. The only thing to consider with Elliott is his price tag which is the highest on the slate and for good reason. He’ll start third on Sunday.

Martin Truex, Jr. ($10,400)

After posting the fastest time in practice it’s reasonable to assume that Truex will be able to get around the Indy track swiftly starting in the sixth position. Last week at Watkins Glen, Truex finished third after leading 34 laps and starting ninth. Truex has quietly become one of the better road course drivers and that should be no different come Sunday after some solid practice time.

Also consider: Kyle Larson ($10,600)

Place Differential Targets

Brad Keselowski ($8,200)

Keselowski was already a strong consideration for me regardless of starting position due to his $8,200 salary. However, after a poor effort last week and a starting position of 31st on Sunday, Keselowski becomes potentially the highest owned driver on the slate.

Kyle Busch ($10,200)

Starting 21st, Kyle is a great P.D. play but with some other mid-range options starting farther back and the dominator’s being priced up, he may fall a bit under-owned. Make no mistake about it, Kyle has the ability to make his way to the front and take control of any race. Don’t sleep on him.

Kurt Busch ($9,000)

Kurt has two top-five finishes and three top 10 finishes on road courses this season and finished 13th last week at the Glen with a $10,000 salary. Starting 20th, there’s room for plenty of P.D. point with an outside chance of winning.

Alex Bowman ($8,400)

Bowman will start 24th on Sunday and is priced nicely at $8,400. The driver of the 48 car has three top-10’s on road courses this season and there is plenty of P.D. points available for him.
