The Dongers Club – September 1st

Rain is coming through the Northeast today and the Phillies-Nationals & Marlins-Nationals games have already been wiped off the slate.  Luckily most of the games are out on the west coast, so it’s a relatively good time for the Hurricane to come through the Northeast, if there is ever such a thing.

Congrats to the finalists in The Dongers Club – Championships

The winner is one of our hottest members sogr8player, who is a long time follower and has had multiple 20x hits in the past week to go along with winning the Championship.  It wound up being a lower scoring night in two of the three final rounds but he held off Heubs and jetersgirl79!

We will also run a similar contest for Football this season for Ambush loyal members, so make sure you are participating in those as well!

 

Wow, we have some big names and some big projections for tonight.  Cole, Rodon, Scherzer, Sale, Gausman, Fried, Harvey, Kowar …. wait, hey, what are you two guys doing on this list?  But no seriously, some big names up top and whenever there are THAT many big names I find that you don’t even want to bother going down to the cheap range for pitching.

Gerritt Cole

Last night Lucas Giolito was underpriced and wound up under performing as he left the game early with an injury.  Today Gole is that underpriced pitcher against the Angels in a game which is also starting early at 4:07 local time on the west coast.  This means in Anaheim we’re likely to see some bad visibility due to shadows in the afternoon which only further boosts the upside that Cole presents tonight.

Max Scherzer

It seems once every 5-6 years there is an ace pitcher who gets traded and then goes on a rampage with his new team.  Sabathia, Verlander and now Max Scherzer with four of his five recent Dodger starts being fantastic.  The only one which was meh was a road game in Philly and while he does face another NL East familiar foe tonight, I cannot ignore how dominant Max is looking in Dodger blue.

Kevin Gausman

Objects in the rear view mirror are closer than they appear and don’t look now but the Giants lead over the Dodgers has all but vanished away.  Two really tough pitching match-ups after a long east coast trip will do that to their offense and today they will turn to their ace Kevin Gausman to right the ship.  He should have a strong performance vs Milwaukee and is my favorite ownership pivot off Max or Cole, although I am not expecting either of those to struggle.

 

Pay up for these aces while they are still pitching deep, however I do strongly feel Jackson Kowar has a good game tonight for Kansas City in his return to the big leagues.

 

Oakland Athletics

Matt Olson, Tony Kemp, Jed Lowrie

These are the guys we have to build our core around today.  All will hit from the left side against Wily Peralta, who allows .215 ISO to LHB and will have to somehow manage to keep the ball in the park with winds out to right field.  Matt Chapman was the Athletic who dominated last night and these three will match him today.

Kansas City Royals

Merrifield, Perez, Rivera, Mondesi.

We have reached September 1st.  This is the time of the year when magically Adalberto Raul Mondesi becomes healthy and reminds everyone that he is one of the best athletes/talents in the game when healthy and confident.  Mondesi has been rehabbing it seems for the entire season and is recalled back tonight to join the squad.

Meanwhile Logan Allen has to be attacked, he allows hard contact too much and fits the profile that Salvy and Whit love to murder.  Load up on those two for the Royals tonight and check here for some good lower in the order lineup value (like Mondi)

San Francisco Giants

Slater, Ruf, Bryant

They need this game tonight and they need to face a pitcher like Brett Anderson after the last two arms they saw from Milwaukee.  A great team vs LHP should come through tonight and is the primary team to get on board with.
