The Dongers Club – September 23rd

The MLB schedule today is broken down into two five game slates and overall the contest selection isn’t as great as you would like to see – plus we have some rain issues with the night games.

Here is a quick run down of the early five games, I’ll do a similar breakdown for the late five games which has a game with major rain concerns but also is more of a leverage type slate.

Early – Five Games

Cards vs Brewers, Dodgers vs Rockies, Mariners vs Athletics, Braves vs Diamondbacks and Giants vs Padres

PITCHING

Morton and Bassit are very affordable, which is opening up the door to get the primary offense targets today.  Logan Webb should continue to go under the radar but is honestly pitching better than anyone else on this slate not named Max Scherzer – who is okay yes, but Morton is going to come close to matching him in my mind for 2700 less.

  1. Charlie Morton (Atlanta)
  2. Chris Bassit (Oakland)
  3. Logan Webb (San Francisco)

OFFENSES TO STACK

  1. LA Dodgers
  2. Oakland Athletics

The Cardinals are on fire and the roof might be open in Milwaukee with some strong winds out to right field — but I would be a little cautious with chasing them again today.  The Dodgers in a Coors day game will be your chalk and for good reason.  We can get some really cheap pitching options in good spots (Morton/Bassit) and afford the Mookie-Turner-Turner build as an anchor from the Dodgers today.

Oakland is the next primary target for me against Yusei Kikuchi.

An under the radar team would be the SF Giants.  Yu Darvish just hasn’t been good for a while now and I can see Evan Longoria taking him deep.
