Key Skaters

C Auston Matthews (TOR)

Another slate, another opportunity to play Auston Matthews. In this case Matthews gets a chance against a Carolina team that has the fifth-highest expected goals average against at 5v5. Matthews has yet to record a point but with six or more shots in two of his three games, he’s due to bury at least one and this is a solid matchup like I said.

C Tyler Seguin (DAL)

Through five games the Blue Jackets are allowing the third-most scoring chances per 60 minutes at 5v5 and Seguin comes into this game price extremely low at $4,800. Over his last two games Seguin has nine shots on goal and is coming off a to-point effort (one goal, one assist) his last time out. For a guy, an established goal scorer that’s going to see upwards of 20 minutes on the top line and top power-play unit at the Center position, it’s tough for me to wrap my head around his price.

C Anze Kopitar (LAK)

Thus far the normally strong defense for the St. Louis Blues has been anything but. Through four games they have allowed the second-most high-danger scoring chances per 60, second-most scoring chances per 60, and have the high expected goals against rate per 60. The Kings’ captain has started out hot with six goals and three assists in five games. While the Blues are still trying to get their acts together Kopitar could captitalize with the hot start he’s had.

Favorite Line Stacks

Tampa Bay Lightning

Brayden Point, Ondrej Palat, Steve Stamkos

• While Buffalo has played well defensively to this point they’ve definitely been overachieving thus far. This is the top even strength line for the lightning and they all correlate on the top power-play unit.

Florida Panthers

Aleksander Barkov, Anthony Duclair, Carter Verhaeghe, Aaron Ekblad

• Outside of Barkov and Ekblad this is an affordable line. The first three skaters are all even strength partners while Ekblad joins Barkov on the top power-play. The Coyotes have allowed the fourth-most goals against at 5v5 per 60 minutes.

Carolina Hurricanes

Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen, Andrei Svechnikov

• The top line for the ‘Canes has been playing well and Carolina has four or more goals in three of four games this season. All three skate on the top power-play unit while Aho and Teravainen spend time skating on the first even strength line together. Toronto who plays at a fast pace has typically found themselves allowing odd man rushes and scoring chances coming the other way. The speed of the Hurricanes could pose a problem there and this could be a high-scoring game overall.
