Overview

For the first time, this season the Cup Series will hit the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL. The ROVAL is 2.28-miles and has 17 turns. The drivers will go 109 laps for 252.88 miles in what is an elimination race before we get to the round of eight. With predictable top contenders and some nice value plays there are plenty of choices and ways to build lineups for Sunday!

Top Drivers

Chase Elliott ($10,700)

Last season at this course Elliott led 27 laps on his way to winning continuing his run as one of the best road course drivers in the series. In six road course races, this season Elliott has two wins, five top 10’s, and an average finish of 5.2. Elliott will start eighth and I expect him to be a top contender to win. He’ll be my highest-owned driver.

A.J. Allmendinger ($11,200)

Allmendinger is known by now as one of the better road course drivers in NASCAR and for the Cup race, he’s the highest-priced driver. Much of that has to do with his starting spot back at 33rd. He’ll be one of the most popular drivers on Sunday.

Ryan Blaney ($9,100)

In this event last year Blaney started 24th and finished fifth racking up 72 DraftKings points. Blaney is sneaky good at these road courses with a win, five top five’s, and nine top 10’s in 18 road course tries. At $9,100 Blaney is priced in that sweet spot as someone who won’t be heavily rostered while starting sixth in a good position to lead a good chunk if he can get out front.

Joey Hand ($5,200)

You might be wondering who the hell this guy is. Hand is a sportscar ringer making his Cup Series debut. He’ll be driving the 52 car for Rick Ware. However, that car will be outfitted with Stewart-Haas equipment – a major step up from a typical Rick Ware Racing car. Hand starts 36th and at his price a top 25 finish will be worth the investment with the possibility for more.

Matt DiBenedetto ($7,900) and Tyler Reddick ($7,800)

Matty D and Reddick are in similar positions starting 30th and 29th respectively. Both should be considered popular place differential targets due in large part to their salary and deep starting position. Regardless of how they’ve fared on road courses, they’re worth rostering. There’s someone else, though in a similar spot that should be much lower owned…

Ross Chastain ($9,300)

Chastain is that guy that should be much lower owned when considering that he starts 27th and has just as good a chance as Reddick and DiBenedetto to a top 10 finish. Chastain has been running great since the playoffs started driving with a ton of confidence. In a race such as this one where there will be bumping and pushing along with plenty of attrition, Chastain is an aggressive tournament play that I can get behind.
