Overview

The XFINITY cars will hit the track at Daytona for 100 120 laps spanning 300 miles on the 2.5-mile tri-oval that is heavily banked. The asphalt track banks 31 degrees in the turns and 18 degrees in the tri-oval and if you’ve ever had the pleasure of walking on the track you’d know that it is quite a climb up from the infield to the wall surrounding the track. Qualifying is set and there are some interesting starting points for some drivers that are noteworthy from a DFS standpoint.

Strategy

The general strategy for these superspeedways is to find drivers that are starting toward the back in hope that they avoid the inevitable big wreck or wrecks. As we saw in last night’s truck race, there was a massive wreck at the end causing the race to go into overtime. The strategy remains the same, look for drivers that can bring you place differential points, and from an upside standpoint look for drivers that could sneak a win out of the chaos that is bound to ensue.

Most comparable tracks: Talladega Superspeedway (only real difference is how much wider it is than Daytona)

Top Drivers

Sam Mayer ($8,900), Starting 34th

After running 18 races in the number 8 car for Jr. Motorsports last year, Mayer landed himself a full-time ride with the same organization this season. Mayer found some success with six top-10’s and one top five in his audition last year as no one is denying the talent that he has. Mayer finished 12th in the second Daytona race last year and starting 34th tonight will provide plenty of place differential upside but with that will come high ownership. Keep that in mind.

Myatt Snider ($8,300), Starting 33rd

Snider had a nice season in 2021 driving the number 2 car for Richard Childress but this year will move to the number 31 car for Jordan Anderson Racing. In the two races at Daytona last year, Snider finished seventh and eighth respectively. Like Mayer, there is a ton of place differential available for Snider and the salary is not prohibitive.

Ty Gibbs ($10,500), Starting 15th

Starting in the middle of the pack with perhaps the best equipment and most talent in the field, Ty Gibbs is a favorite to not only finish this race in high standing but win this race outright. If rostering Gibbs in a lineup or two you’re rostering him simply with the mindset that he’s going to get to the front and win the race.

Brandon Brown ($7,600), Starting 13th

Brown found himself in the top 10 on two occasions last year on superspeedways; the first was in the first Daytona race where he finished second and later in the season he won at Talladega. Entering his fourth year as a full-time driver in the XFINITY Series, Brown has the experience and starting in the middle of the field his ownership will be minuscule. With all of that being said, Let’s Go Brandon.
