Overview

After a one-week break, the Camping World Truck Series is back on track, this time at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Victoria’s Voice Foundation 200. The drivers will run 134 for 201 miles on this 1.5-mile asphalt oval that can be compared to Kansas Motor Speedway. There will be a couple of different ways to attack this race which I’ll address below in the strategy section.

Strategy

First and foremost I am writing this article ahead of qualifying which is scheduled to take place later this afternoon at 5:00 p.m. eastern. In this race we’ll have the decision of whether or not to roster Kyle Busch and if so how much or how little exposure to have to him. He does however come with a price with a salary of $15,000, $3,000 more than the next-highest-priced driver, and driver that drives for his company in John Hunter Nemechek. If you’re new to the Truck Series, whenever Busch is in a race it’s more or less a burden to build lineups around him while also being extremely difficult to fade him, specifically in a cash setting when he’ll often surpass 70 percent ownership levels. There aren’t a ton of dominator points available with there just being 134 laps so place differential and finishing position will be where the emphasis lies.

Top Drivers

Kyle Busch ($15,000)

As mentioned above, Kyle drives the ownership whenever he’s in a truck race. Busch ran five truck races last year, won two of them and finished top five in all of them. After starting 29th in the race at Las Vegas he finished second and led 16 laps to boot, so navigating through the field was no problem for him making him a worthwhile roster regardless of qualifying position. The question is how building around him will go.

John Hunter Nemechek ($12,000)

JHN, one of the favorites to win the Camping World Truck Series championship this season had two impressive showings at LVMS last season despite finishing 33rd in the second race, a race in which he led 33 laps after having trouble with his truck. In the first race, he was able to outlast Busch leading 94 of the 134 laps. In lineups that I’m fading Busch, I’ll latch onto JHN as a dominator/potential winner.

Christian Eckes ($9,600)

Eckes performed well at both Vegas races last year including winning in the second race despite just leading four laps. In the first race, he finished ninth and overall has four top 10’s at Las Vegas and two top five’s at Kansas in his young racing career. He’ll be a dark horse dominator and contender to win this race.

Tate Fogleman ($6,100)

Depending on his qualifying spot, which is the case with most of these drivers, especially the mid-priced and value options, Fogleman could come through as a nice value option. He finished 20th and 14th in the two Vegas races last season and in the latter, he started way back at 33rd.
