The Dongers Club – April 23rd (Early)

I will do three brief articles for the three slates today.  It’s rare that we have an evenly distributed triple header and so I’ll give thoughts on all the games to help you with DFS, Betting, Prop Bets or just Bar Trivia on this fine Saturday afternoon.

This article is covering the first slate, which is the Early slate on our Dashboard and features

San Francisco at Washington

Former Giant Aaron Sanchez will be pitching for the Nationals today.  Giddy up!

Cleveland at NY Yankees

Happy Yankee Stadium Saturday UNDERS season!

Colorado at Detroit

Game 1 of Doubleheader

Pittsburgh at Chicago Cubs

This game will have winds blowing out 15+ mph out to left field and will be in the low to mid 70’s.  It’s going to be a target offense game for that reason.

THE GOOD

Nestor Cortes and Tarik Skubal are the two pitchers who should have the most upside based upon their talent capabilities alone today and pricing wise they fit in fairly well together.  Cortes has the least amount of risk in my mind of the two even though the Tribe are a top offense YTD.  If Cortes is on his game as I expect he will go over his 5.5 strikeout prop (-135 on DK) too.  Skubal has been very up and down in his short career and is expected to take a big step forward this season for the Rockies.  There are a couple big problem bats for him, but he could excel today.

Alex Wood and Kyle Hendricks are your steady as they go options.  Wood is clear cut ahead of Hendricks even given Kyle’s better splits at home because most of that is in a night game and today the weather is prime for offense in Wrigley.  So it’s Wood who we trust the most as our SP2 to pair with the upside of either Cortes or Skubal.

THE CONTRARIAN

Cal Quantrill makes for an interesting ‘leverage’ or pivot play.  I project the game in Yankee Stadium to be low scoring.

THE UGLY

Zach Thompson has the look of a dude who wants to desperately add “give up 7 runs without recording an out”  on to his 2022 Resume.  Probably not that extreme for it to come today, but not worth the risk at all given the Cubs lack of Whiff % this season and his own inability to dominate.

Aaron Sanchez vs his former team?  No thank you.   Antonio Senzatela is arguably the same guy as Cal Quantrill but has worse stuff.

GIANTS vs NATIONALS

After his birthday now is the spot where Joc should feast with a day game homer.  Load up on 3+ Giants on this slate to do damage in Nats Park and 100% fade all Nationals hitters outside of Nelson Cruz.

SF GIANTS:

  • 1B – Brandon Belt
  • OF – Joc Pederson
  • SS – Brandon Crawford

NATIONALS:

  • OF – Nelson Cruz

ROCKIES vs TIGERS

While you can chase the Miguel Cabrera 3,000th hit narrative, we have another 1B here in CJ Cron who is a VERY difficult out for Skubal.  I can see Skubal giving up hard contact to Cron and Bryant while still striking out 6+ Rockies today.

ROCKIES

  • 1B – CJ Cron

TIGERS

  • OF – Austin Meadows
  • 2B – Jonathan Schoop

PIRATES vs CUBS

The wind and warm weather here makes this a very good game to target.  The Pirates know Kyle Hendricks but he pitches much better at home, so limit Pirates to 3 max.

PIRATES

  • OF – Bryan Reynolds
  • 3B – KeBryan Hayes
  • OF – Ben Gamel

CUBS

  • C – Willson Contreras
  • OF – Rafael Ortega
  • OF – Ian Happ

GUARDIANS vs YANKEES

Full fade from a hitting perspective.
