CBB DFS: The ONIONS – Jan 4th

We’re back into CBB conference play heavily enough that the routine of weeknight and Saturday CBB DFS articles will come back now.  That and with CFB fully behind us I have more time to focus on the CBB action.

Nine games early as DK continues to start off at 6:30 and put the 9PM games on their own slate tonight.  We have a couple large totals and then a bunch of balance options out there.  This is a nice DFS slate, but we still have some small prize pools.

As a reminder, my approach for CBB DFS is to build around 1 or 2 main games but I rarely go above 4 players from a single game and no more than 2 players from a single team unless there is a TON of cheap value on a specific team.  The reason mainly is that it’s just hard to find enough points from going deep into a single spot.

Often times I will approach it as a 3-3-2 type build taking 3 players from Game A, 3 players from Game B and then my favorite one offs or 2 players from a third game.  Building a 3-2-2-1 approach is also logical many times and sometimes a 4-2-2 works as well.

Missouri at Arkansas

Despite having a good 12-1 record the Tigers they should get run over here by Arkansas who looks to get right tonight.  Mizzou is a bad rebounding team and will play right into Arkansas fast tempo and better defense.  Look for Council to lead the way for the Razorbacks with Mitchell having a good REB game.

Missouri

  • G: Nick Honor – $5400
  • G/F: Kobe Brown – $8100

Arkansas

  • G: Ricky Council – $7300
  • F: Makai Mitchell – $6900

Other good spots

Popular …

  • Nova at Georgetown:  Eric Dixon, Cam Whitmore, Brandon Murray
  • Miami at Georgia Tech:  Jordan Miller, Rodney Howard, Miles Kelly

Contrarian …

  • Texas A&M at Florida:  Tyrece Radford, Kowacie Reeves, Colin Castelton
  • UCONN at Providence:   Jordan Hawkins, Tristen Newton, Bryce Hopkins

Pay up $$$

Today sets up well for going High $$$ and Low $ with some reasonably good value down below $5500 on this slate and not much in the mid range.

  1. Ricky Council – Arkansas – 7300 … Must own for exposure on Arkansas.  At home he should bounce back tonight.
  2. Eric Dixon – Villanova – $7600 … Best of the Nova pay up spots.  Ownership likely high
  3. Jaylin Williams – Auburn – $7400 … Contrarian pick tonight.  Auburn and Georgia could be a sneaky over and I like the size for Auburn and Williams could have a double double tonight.
  4. Terquavion Smith – NC State – $9200 … Not thrilled on the Duke/NC State game, I think its lower scoring but Terq Smith could wind up 2x’ing the rest of his teammates.
  5. Jordan Miller – Miami – $7000 … My boy, great spot where he should get lots of those filler “Jordan Miller” type stats.
  6. Tyrece Radford – Texas A&M – $7600 … Has always been good on the road and is +5 FPPG when on the road.
  7. Kobe Brown – Mizzou – $8100

Mid Range $$

  1. Makhi Mitchell – Arkansas – $6900
  2. Brandon Slater – Villanova – $6600
  3. Jett Howard – Michigan – $6800
  4. Tristen Newton – UCONN – $6200
  5. Braelen Bridges – Georgia – $6000

Value $

  1. Kowacie Reeves – Florida – $4200
  2. Davonte Davis – Arkansas – $5000
  3. Nick Honor – Mizzou – $5400
  4. Jaylen Blakes – Duke – $4500
  5. Kyle Lofton – FLorida – $4300
  6. Rodney Howard – GT – $4600
  7. DeAndre Gholston – Mizzou – $4700

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Villanova vs Georgetown game is probably one of the more popular ones to stack.  Georgetown sucks, I get it, but if you want one to consider fading based on ownership that is the likely one to look for some pivots off of.  Nova could get contributions from everyone which really makes it so that none of them are must owns.
