The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series kicks off tonight from Daytona and anyone who follows racing is excited for what should be an exctiting weekend. The racing kicked off last night with the Cup Series drivers taking part in the Duels and both races were entertaining and created storylines heading into Sunday’s Daytona 500. Focusing on the truck race, this article comes to you prior to qualifying. Hit up the discord post qualifying (which takes place at 3:00 eastern for any updates). As always with a Superspeedway, the approach will be simple; find drivers starting towards the back, in solid equipment, and avoid the big wreck(s).

Top Drivers

Zane Smith ($10,300)

No stranger to Daytona is Smith who has finished first, 11th, and 16th in three truck races here. He’ll be in the 38 truck as usual, a truck that he won this race with last year starting back in the field at 20th. At the top end of the pricing chain, look for a solid run from Smith regardless of where he starts.

Corey LaJoie ($9,000)

LaJoie finds himself in the 7 truck with some solid history at Daytona, especially in the Cup Series. In eight completed starts at Daytona, LaJoie has three top 10’s with an average overall starting position of 30th. LaJoie knows how to navigate around a Superspeedway and has the experience doing so, which can’t neccesarily be said for most of the other racers.

Carson Hocevar ($8,700)

Many, including myself are expecting a big year from Hocevar who is once again piloting the 42 Niece Motorsports truck. In two races here at Daytona, Hocevar has a fifth place and ninth place finish with starting positions of 12th and 22nd respectively. In a good truck with good history, depending on his qualifying spot Hocevar could be a steal at $8,700. Regardless, he’s in play for me, especially in tournaments as a potential winner.
