Site synchronicity for a mid week afternoon slate with 10 games on both FD and DK for the games which begin at 1PM, so you do not have the Rays/Reds game on either site in a classic format.
New Player Note
The Oakland Athletics have called up Mason Miller, who has been flying through their farm system and some have dubbed ‘the next Strider’. He has great velocity and a hard slider from the right side, which should bode well for having good K% rates in the majors, but like always we’ll expect some walks and limitations early with a young SP in the big leagues. Shockingly, he is not in the DraftKings player pool today.
WEATHER
Rain in Chicago for the Phils and White Sox. They already had one PPD spot and they have windows to get this in so I would expect that.
Coors Field on the other hand looks ugly. Which couold only be the best blessing possible. It’s also heavy winds blowing in, temps in the 50’s and I kinda respect both pitchers there so if it does magically play then we can fade it one more time.
TREVOR ROGERS
There once was a time when we considered the Giants to be elite vs LHP, but those days are long gone in my mind. Wilmer Flores and Darin Ruf are two guys who were really known for being lefty smashers, but neither really scares me here and with the way Rogers has been getting whiffs on his change-up he should be able to get through this veteran lineup in a getaway game in South Beach.
MAX SCHERZER
Technically we have a battle of two SP facing their former teams here, even though Max’s time with the Dodgers was a very brief cup of coffee that didn’t amount to much.
I don’t forsee any blow up issues, not when he is able to go through Martinez-Muncy-Outman-Peralta today with ease. Max to me is better to pay up for than Justin Steele who is slightly cheaper vs a much weaker opponent, but someone I am cautious about having a good game today. Pay the extra $ for Max.
BRADY SINGER
No homer here, this is really one of the 3 best SP option going today. Singers last start he was off with his velocity which led to him getting hit harder than he has all season by the Braves. I’ve heard no specific issues with any dead arm concerns here so we’re gonna take the gamble that it was just one bad spot where he was trying to be cute vs a good lineup and got burned.
Other pitching thoughts
Marco Gonzales, Martin Perez and even Eric Lauer are all viable lefties to look at today. Lauer should be able to have one of his better games but both Teoscar Hernandez and Eugenio Suarez can take him deep.
It’s gonna be cold again in Cleveland, so Cal Quantrill and Spencer Turnbull look like they could have a back and forth fast game, but neither should have much of any strikeouts along the way.
It’s April, so even though it’s an afternoon slate, we’re really limited with what I would consider ‘great’ hitting spots. So that means many could justify paying to play Coors Field in a rainy spot, but I have no desire there again.
CARDINALS
Carlson, Arenado, O’Neill, Goldschmidt
So lets just talk about the elephant in the room and that is Madison Bumgarner getting another start and getting it vs the Cardinals. Yikes. He faces his old friend here in Paul Goldschmidt who got a day off and then went yard, and we’ve been waiting for that big Arenado 1st inning blast as well.
Cards are chalk, and they’re good chalk. But if ever you wanted to buy into Dylan Carlson and Tyler O’Neill today is the time to do it.
DIAMONDBACKS
Rojas, Marte, Walker
Let’s not sleep on the fact that Jake Woodford can be taken to the Woodshed himself. He really has nothing of the elite variety in his arsenal and both Marte/Walker are very good sinker ball hitters.
CUBS
Hoerner, Swanson, Happ, Bellinger, Suzuki
The combination of any rookie SP making his debut and a terrible bullpen behind him should be an automatic top stack recommendation. I don’t care if they are in a huge park (although Oakland in the day time is not that bad) and also the Cubs. This is a veteran lineup who should take the smart approach today and dare Miller to throw strikes.
