MAX SCHERZER (DK)
If you read my pitcher educational article today then you probably saw I mentioned how on a big (> 10 game) slate the value in spending your $ should go towards pitchers on a 1 SP site like FanDuel. There’s zero reason to not consider Scherzer, Buehler or Giolito today on FanDuel because of those three we’re going to get a 40-50 point game and there’s enough hitting choices to find combinations to fit with a very high floor score like that. So spare me your 0.1% owned pitcher recommendations on FanDuel and just take the sure things here.
That said, Max is mostly just in play on DK today because of the considerable savings we can get with Buehler on FD. Max is drawing potentially 8 righty hitters from the Blue Jays but he is obviously going into the worst park of all the top aces going. That said, there’s nothing wrong with Max right now as he looks poised to have a fantastic season and will be the highest sought after player at the trade deadline. One of those teams who might be interested is Toronto and they’re going to get a heavy doese of his K potential tonight. Even with Springer likely back, I trust Max to give us double digit strikeouts and we know he always pitches over 100 pitches in a game.
LUCAS GIOLITO (FD/DK)
I expect the offense to come alive tonight around MLB stadiums with warmer temperatures and pitchers finally starting to show some wear and tear. The idea of pairing up Max and Giolito together on DK today is extremely tempting even though Giolito is coming off a horrific outing and also coming off a scratched outing due to a cut on his finger. The cut bothers me 1000x more than the blow-up game against Boston which was during the Patriots Day game in Boston at 11am on a Monday. Something no ace pitcher is used to doing and can be thrown out the window 1000% because it has ZERO relevance to what he can do tonight. So long as the finger holds up Giolito is in line for a great match-up against a terrible Tigers offense.
WALKER BUEHLER (FD)
Buehler’s velocity on his FB continues to be down a little bit and he hasn’t had as much luck with it against LH hitters today. Winker-Votto and the return of Moose (in SoCal too) are problem spots for Walker tonight but he does carry a 2k discount off of Max and should get a ton of run support tonight. I only like him on FanDuel based on pricing though and don’t expect more than 42-44 fantasy points there.
FRANKIE MONTAS (FD/DK)
So while you can find value bats on this short slate to pair two stud pitchers together, there are also some area’s where building out a good stack is going to require a cheaper SP2 or even two cheap pitchers together and pray. Frankie Montas is the leader under 8k today on both sites ($7400 on FD, $7300 on DK) and has a solid 29% CSW and is limiting hard/consistent contact this season despite a higher than expected slugging % against. Montas is coming off a drubbing against the Twins in a day game last week and his other blow up game was week one against the Dodgers. The Rays are going to likely roll out a bunch of LH batters and he’s been much better vs them this season so we should get the good Montas tonight in a pitchers park as well. He has enough strike-out upside as well to be considered as the SP1 on FanDuel if you do multiple lineups there.
AARON SANCHEZ (DK)
The Rockies remain bad at Baseball. Next up on the list is Aaron Sanchez, not as dominant as the Italian DeSclafani was last night but should still be very effective and avoid any major damage. The Rockies don’t do much very well offensively away from Coors Field and they certainly don’t draw enough walks either. So Sanchez is in a reallly comfortable spot for him to pitch effectively and accumulate 6 innings which is normally a reason we don’t use him (because he doesn’t go that long). Today though is a spot he should.
Other pitching thoughts …
- Zach Eflin – Zack almost made the list but even with the terrible offense from the Cardinals last night I do not want to touch pitchers with good winds and warmer temps in St. Louis tonight. This is a scenario where we have seen the Cardinals go Good-bad-Good-bad-bad-Good-bad randomness all season long and the risk is not worth it in my mind.
- Cirstian Javier – Javier has performed better than I expected he would and is STRONG vs RHB. Seager is a challenging AB for him and I don’t hate using Javier — but I’ll take the Giolito for $200 more. If you want a lower owned pivot then Javier is that guy.
Should pitch better than we expect but zero reason to use in dfs … But no reason to attack IMO.

Jose Abreu, Yoan Moncada
My favorite player this entire week is going to be Jose Abreu. Abreu has murdered Tigers pitching his entire career and has shown some real turn it on signs with a HR on Sunday as well. Abreu is one of those hitters who loves warmer temps and having temps in the 70’s tonight with Jose Urena on the mound is just too dominant of a spot to ignore. Love Chicago to pour it on the Tigers all series.
DODGERS
Corey Seager, Justin Turner, Max Muncy, Will Smith
My goodness they should murder Jeff Hoffman. A fastball throwing RHP in Dodger Stadium against a team who is gonna be a little pissed off tonight. The only question I really have here is do I need both Dodgers who hit 2-HR tonight or just Corey Seager?
DIAMONDBACKS
Kole Calhoun, David Peralta
Roof status in Chase Field = Open! The Padres and Dodgers are now a combined 0-3 in games after they play each other and in all three games they were decent sized favorites. The Padres can make it 0-4 tonight as they go into Chase Field and we’re going to want some action from both teams here but we should not overlook the Diamondbacks in an upset spot.
Those are the main three that I really like tonight, but I can’t come out here and say it’s OVERS week and then not identify the other areas which stood out as favorable hitting spots… So consider this a little bit of a precursor to the positional breakdown
- Camden Yards (Yanks vs Os) – Duh, it’s Stanton/Frazier/Urshela. All about how much you wanna spend on Stanton versus paying down (see below), but I like the Baltimore side again for value and an upset.
- Stewart/Franco
- Marlins – Yessir! Marlins week continues tonight and plenty of value here with
- Duvall/Dickerson/Jazz/Jesus being the core.
- Angels – This is all about how much you trust Trout-Rendon-Walsh to carry this because until David Fletcher starts hitting he immediately gets reduced to a punt play. The lack of him having Trout immediately behind him is hurting.
- Nationals – Bad offense that is full of value players going into a great ballpark against a combination of Trent Thornton and Tommy Milone. There’s good value here in the RH bats.

CATCHER
Wow, every catcher today seems very much inflated in their price on DK, so if we get a cheap punt then I would look there.

- Jose Abreu … Give me all the batter vs team splits I can handle. Lifetime .354, 23 HR, 34 2B, 1.007 OPS in 112 games against the Tigers — including a .429/.762/1.216 slash line last year. Oh, it’s Jose Urena on the mound too. I’m just gonna throw some other bullshit names here on this list for no reason because I will have 100% Jose Abreu all series.

- Mike Moustakas – Returning from an illness and is my sleeper HR call of the night.
- Gio Urshela – Very cheap exposure to the Yankees and outside of Stanton he’s been one of their more consistent bats
- Kyle Seager – Rakes in Houston, had a HR last night
