The Dongers Club – May 8th – Main

Seven game main slate tonight and no major weather concerns.  The Orioles are using a rookie pitcher tonight and I have the dashboard just pulling generic stats for him, despite the $4,000 min price I would not advise using a rookie lefty in Camden vs Boston.

Lance Lynn … (DK: $9,500, FD: $10,400)

The Royals have quite the streak going right now and it’s a streak of not scoring runs and for that reason we’ll pick on them with Lynn being two starts off the IL now.  KC will wake up tomorrow, oh wait… Giolito is pitching.  Nevermind, they’ll wake up on Monday.

Ian Anderson … (DK:  $8,900, FD: $7,900)

The run support Anderson will get tonight alone should atleast make you feel good about him winning today.  Open up your sportsbook, go to the Braves-Phils game and just play Atlanta.  This is a 13-3 game and Anderson will ride through 7 strong innings tonight for the Bravos.

Garrett Richards … (DK: $8,200, FD: $7,400)

Richards has pitched better of late and some will shy away from him due to his bad starts against the Orioles to start the season but I will bite on G-Rich tonight to deliver 6 clean innings.   It’s go here or go all the way down to Daniel Lynch and just hope he can get you 12 points tonight.

Atlanta Braves

Freeman, Acuna, Albies

Yes, I like Atlanta today.  Vincent J. Velasquez on the mound vs a team who is a ticking time bomb waiting to explode should be our first and only priority spot to attack tonight.   Nobody likes a tout who says everyone is in play, but when I say everyone I’m thinking of maybe a Ron Gant – Terry Pendleton – Rafael Belliard type go off game tonight, it’s the whole team which should wake up but Freeman is our core play for sure.   Also, if you can’t appreciate a 1990’s baseball reference then I feel sorry for you.

Houston Astros

Bregman, Correa, Gurriel

Matz has been able to have success with getting lots of ground ball outs when he needs them this year.  But Houston is deadly against LHP and we can get the roof possibly open again with some good wind gusts that might come down into the stadium.   I like both Gurriel’s in this game.

Seattle Mariners

Lewis, Seager, Haniger

Assuming the roof is open here as well this is a really good value game to look at.  Neither SP should be trusted to strike out many guys and that’s always a good thing to look for when checking for a value team to build around.  I don’t see the HR value here that I do in Atlanta and Houston today but Kyle Lewis and Kyle Seager are strong plays to have multi-hit games.

The two strongest positions today are 1B and SS.

CATCHER

FIRST BASE

  1. Freddie Freeman
  2. Yuli Gurriel
  3. Jose Abreu

SECOND BASE

SHORTSTOP

  1. Xander Bogaerts
  2. Carlos Correa
  3. Dansby Swanson
  4. Nick Ahmed – Value

OUTFIELD – Tier 1

  1. Ronald Acuna Jr
  2. Joey Gallo
  3. Mitch Haniger – Boost if roof open
  4. Bryce Harper – Yes the Braves can win 13-3 and yes Ian Anderson can pitch 6 innings and yes Bryce Harper can hit a 2-run HR.

OUTFIELD – Tier 2

  1. Mike Trout
  2. Marcell Ozuna
  3. Christian Pache

OUTFIELD – Value

If you are a one lineup person then I would look to take the good value that is in OF today and just place a few player to HR bets on the guys in Tier 1 who are a bit pricey.  Unfortunately I am currently on travel in a state where we cannot use the DK sportsbook (boo!), so I can’t get this in myself but I would play a Harper/Acuna/Trout all to HR parlay and in DFS use the value OF.

  1. Lourdes Gurriel
  2. Kyle Tucker
  3. Andrew Vaughn

LINEUP CONSTRUCTION THOUGHTS

Chalkiest Stacks

  1. Red Sox – I am comfortable fading or being very light here.
  2. Braves
  3. White Sox – Lynch will do extremely well against the guys not named Anderson/Abreu/Mercedes/Vaughn tonight.  Problem is those 4 will do well vs him.

Team with most upside getting overlooked and also not being attacked with a SP (i.e. Low owned secondary stacks)

  1. Astros
  2. Diamondbacks – Good vs LHP
  3. Mariners

Best Leverage Spots

  1. Royals, only because Lynn could be 60-70% owned and the weather is favorable to hitting.
