The Dongers Club – August 5th (Early)

Harry Doyle probably read last nights primary or favorite batters and uttered “One God Damn Hit, thats all we got?”, because that’s kind of how it felt while the good team getting overlooked Dodgers went to the moon late at night a day later.  But I really wish we could hear a version of what Harry Doyle would have said about FanDuel’s contest selection on building an early slate today.  So in short, we aren’t even bothering with FanDuel early only.

Five game early slate on DraftKings starting at 1:10 PM.

  • Red Sox at Tigers
  • Angels at Rangers – This game has 2 pitchers I don’t trust at all to go over 10 points and two lineups that I don’t love for stacking either.  Just cross it off IMO.
  • Cubs at Rockies
  • Giants at Diamondbacks – Most likely game to have SP game stack produce but Wood is struggling lately and Giants profile too well vs Kelly for me to touch it.  Like Arizona for upset today against Wood.
  • Phillies at Nationals

AARON NOLA

We certainly do not have a long list of solid starting pitchers on the five early game slate and that leads us to a road Nola day game scenario against the Nationals.  If I had enough secondary pitchers to write up fading Nola I would mention it as a worthy idea, but he has a very strong chance of 2x’ing the rest of the pitchers today and value is not something we need to find, so take his $10k salary, the 18-22 point range and accept it.  You seriously don’t think Victor Robles and Luis Garcia combine for 3 HR again do you???  Didn’t think so.

ANTONIO SENZATELA

This will be the edge if you are into that sort of thing.  Senzatela is actually pitching better than any other secondary pitcher option on this slate.  Over his last 250 PA against he has allowed only a .329 xSLG, while posting three straight moderate to decent games for his standards.   In Coors he’ll get overlooked and likely attacked with Cubs bats as well, so leverage is there and when the pitching is dogshit like this we’re best off taking some leverage over chalk like Alex Wood.

Best second lineup pairing:   Wood & Kelly SP game stack.

Red Sox vs Tigers

Kike, Devers, Bogaerts, Renfroe

Grossman, Miggy, Haase

This checks off as the best game stack game using the short slate game stack theory.  Both Perez and Skubal rank very poorly and both have been very weak against strong RH hitting lineups.  Now, the Tigers obviously aren’t a strong RH hitting lineup but they do have Miggy chasing #500 in a Thursday day game at home.  Consider it done.

Rockies

Tapia, McMahon

Jake Arrieta continues to play baseball and pitch for real American dollars.  Congrats to him man, he has it going better than you or I.  Think about this, the guy can show up today, do a few hours of work, get a nice sweat going and then hit the showers and watch about 6 innings of baseball for free.  How do I sign up for that gig man?

Phillies

Harper, Hoskins
