The Dongers Club – August 19th

This will be the only article for today with a short night slate tonight.  I will mention that both Luis Castillo and Walker Buehler are pitching tonight which is sad because we could have had Castillo castrating your lineups while Buehler dominates had they pitched tomorrow night.  It’s a shame, but that’s okay and oh play Buehler against Walker and the Mets.  Thank you…

FanDuel did not include the Phillies and the Diamondbacks game.  This is about as shocking as my wife’s response when I continued to lay in bed this morning after she asked me to take the trash out.  Pfft.  I need to automate that shit and what good is the dog doing if he can’t latch his leash to the can and drag it down to the end of the driveway?  It’s 2021 for crying out loud and we can gamble on whether or not some dude named Guy is going to win the first point of set 3 of a tennis match half way around the world but my Dog can’t do shit that Astro was doing in the Jetsons?   We really haven’t come as far as we should have by now.

Speaking of Astros, we can play them once again in DFS and watch the Royals pitching staff continue to give me the middle finger.  Sounds like fun, no?

ZACK WHEELER

The Phillies are doing their best Mets impression right now and they are reeling out in Arizona, but Wheeler should right the ship today with only Ketel Marte looking like he could pose some threat and that might just be a couple seeing eyed singles past the sleeping Alec Bohm at first base.

SHANE McCLANAHAN

Nobody else on this slate is going to come close to touching Wheeler, but McClanahan can accrue some good numbers.  He’ll draw a mostly RH lineup from the Birds which should limit his ceiling but he is still striking out righties fairly well and two starts ago vs Baltimore he registered a CSW rate of 36% on his slider and 47% on his curveball.  Topped off with a decent fastball, he should get 6+ strikeouts today.  Expect him to be pretty popular on FanDuel and for good reason.

The only other pitcher I am okay using would be Madison Bumgarner stacked with Wheeler.

DETROIT TIGERS

Cabrera, Candelario, Grossman and a 4th Tiger.  Stack em up.

Today is the day for Miguel Cabrera.  I’ve said that two or three times but a Thursday home game for Miggy is where he has made his mark as a Tiger.  The O.G. DFS legend of day game lore, Miguel Cabrera just missed hitting #500 in his final AB last night and has to get it out of the way today against Jose Quintana.   Around him are some other really good options such as Schoop, Candelario and Haase.

HOUSTON ASTROS

Altuve, Correa

This time for sure!  We have to have a very short memory sometimes in DFS and while the Royals young kids have been pitching excellent all series, one thing that Mike Minor is not is a young pitcher learning his craft.  Houston probably needs a day off here or there but a day game in Kauffman Stadium is worth trying this out one more time.

CATCHER

  1. Mike Zunino
  2. Salvador Perez

FIRST BASE

  1. Miguel Cabrera

SECOND BASE

There isn’t anyone here who looks like a strong play at this position today.  Altuve hasn’t done much for a while but maybe he can be today’s Franmil Reyes to get off the schnide.

  1. Jose Altuve
  2. Nicky Lopez

THIRD BASE

  1. Jeimer Candelario
  2. Kyle Seager

SHORTSTOP

  1. Wander Franco
  2. Carlos Correa

OUTFIELD – MT RUSHMORE

We have to like the Eloy-Vaughn combination for the White Sox today but the price on Vaughn makes him extremely favorable to me.

  1. Andrew Vaughn
  2. Robbie Grossman
  3. Yordan Alvarez
  4. Austin Meadows

OUTFIELD – Deep Value

  1. Michael A. Taylor
  2. Jo Adell

MOST POPULAR TEAMS

  1. Tampa Bay

GOOD TEAMS GETTING OVERLOOKED

  1. Oakland vs Chicago … The White Sox make a lot more sense than Oakland who is on the end of a long road trip but none the less good hitting conditions here and two pitchers that I feel can be hit….  These teams would rank #3 on my list behind Detroit/Houston

FAVORITE DK PITCHERS

  1. Wheeler and McClanahan

FAVORITE DK HITTERS

  1. Miguel Cabrera
  2. Jose Altuve
  3. Andrew Vaughn
