Including today there are three Sunday’s left and one of them is a holiday weekend Sunday, so we’re coming near an end of Sunday Dongers Club articles because as of September 12th the DFS sites will no longer be offering any substantial MLB contests — and that’s alright. Sometimes there’s too much going on and you need a reset or a break to clear your mind. So I do not fault anyone who starts to take off weekends from MLB for that reason.
We have the obvious NFL but also College Football starting up as soon as next week. While NASCAR and PGA might wind down too we will be looking at NHL, NBA and College Basketball before you know it. The site will continue to grow and I continue to be happy to see people winning off their own process and continuing to enjoy this fine hobby. Of course, let’s also not ignore the ever exciting negative points from pitchers and nascar drivers too.
Since this article gets most eye balls on it, here’s a couple minor SITE related announcements.
- We have planned maintenance today starting after 3PM’. So if you are interested in the Showdown slate tonight check the model before then just in case there is an outage for any period of time. I do not anticipate the site being offline for more than a minute or two at any given time, but just in case….
- The SWAG that many have been asking for — Hoodies, Hats, Etc… — should be launching within a week or so.
- Did you see the Falcons last night? LOL

WEATHER
There’s a damn hurricane hitting the Northeast. What the heck is going on around here? The Yankee game has already been PPD and the Boston game has a high probability of following suit although we did see Boston play through a rain game earlier this year on a Sunday to get it over with.
Everything else is clear.
Welcome back Chris Archer. What year is this? Because we have Archer pitching in Tropicana Field on a Sunday. Unfortunately he won’t be chalk today, because that would be hilarious…
FRAMBER VALDEZ
I want all the Framber Valdez smoke this afternoon. He has struggled more in the second half of the season but remains a lights out pitcher vs LHB, so good night Kyle Seager, JP Crawford and Jarred Kelenic. The Mariners had a nice little run and will be a good team going forward starting next season but their time is up now and Valdez who has been very good at home will shut the door on their season this afternoon.
CARLOS HERNANDEZ
The conditions in Wrigley today are more pitcher friendly with 10+ mph winds blowing in and temps around 72 degrees. The Cubs offense is arguably the worst in the Majors and somehow the Royals pitching staff has really turned it on of late — it’s almost like they’re learning how to pitch! Carlos last start vs Houston was his first rough one but after facing the Astros, Yankees and White Sox this is going to feel like a little league team opponent today. The wind should help keep 1 or 2 HR in the park too.
SUNDAY SLEEPER
SANDY ALCANTARA
I like Vlad Gutierrez in this same game but I don’t love it. Sandy is the guy I think can come out and out pitch Vlad and shut down a good Reds lineup more than Vlad will against the Marlins — who have double Jesus hitting 3-4 today on a Sunday and I aint about to tempt my faith with that. Sandy is our Sunday sleeper today, this time on the road!
TORONTO BLUE JAYS
Let’s open the roof on a warm day in Toronto and watch the ball fly out of the stadium. Generally the roof open in Toronto isn’t ideal but today it’s very warm up there and look what we have here, the Tigers are rolling out former Blue Jay Drew Hutchison to start the game before turning it over to their bullpen and then maybe turning it over to some random dude from the crowd who wants to pitch the bottom of the 8th when they are down 14-3.
NATIONALS / BREWERS
I wrote off the Nationals a long time ago, but I really like this game for some offense today. It was a quiet scoring game yesterday until Yelich broke things open for Milwaukee and believe it or not the Nationals are hitting okay plus they burned through some of the better parts of the Brewers pen already. Love Juan Soto to get overlooked here and he has slate 2 HR winning upside for sure, but Bell/Yadiel Hernandez and *gasp* Victor Robles are all likely to have decent games as well.
Milwaukee is not priced very friendly however Avisail Garcia is for sure in the Mt. Rushmore today.

Gave lots of consideration to Means but ultimately I don’t think it’s a 30 point Means spot quite yet. He hasn’t been as great in Camden this season and still really struggles with the long ball and that’s always a major issue with the Atlanta lineup. But if you want a leverage play which has upside, Means is an alternate option to Alcantara.
