The Dongers Club – August 30th

Happy reverse splits Monday?  It sure did feel that way when I was writing things up.  I am sensing that tonight is a day to be smart with your pivots off chalk.  There is a scenario where we have a really good SP and an offense in an environment they could explode in after being quiet that I am buying into heavily today along with some one offs who are in LvL or RvR match-ups that will get overlooked.

WEATHER

There is a chance of a shower or two in the Phillies vs Nationals game, but otherwise we should see an evening where all nine games play.

Corbin Burnes

With Zack Wheeler pitching against the Nationals we have a fantastic leverage/pivot opportunity.  Burnes is so good that he’ll still get ownership in some regards tonight, but a lot of people will simply look at the Giants here and say they don’t want to pick on the best team in Baseball coming off a long east coast trip where they cleaned house on the NL East.  And that is EXACTLY the reason my friends why we are locking in Burnes as our SP1 today.

German Marquez

You can throw out two of Marquez’ last three starts.  His most recent one against the Cubs was after a PPD game pushed him back into a weird late 7 inning night game at Wrigley and three starts ago he faced the mighty Giants who eventually wore him down.  Marquez is still a top tier pitcher and when facing a weak opponent like the Rangers should be at the top of our list.

Robbie Ray

Alexa … Show me a pitcher who is going to be 80% owned tonight and men with balls will fade and women with brains will play.  Oh, hey, it’s Robbie Ray.  Yeah, there’s literally nothing to say here other than do you want to believe Robbie Ray continues to be real (shit, its August 30th at this point, I mean, we kind of have to admit it?) or do you want to fall into the category of … Hmm, this guy has known to lose his command when not focused and he’s coming off the best start of his career against a really good White Sox team and now he gets … the Orioles?  How could he not fuck up with that kind of let down.  It’s too obvious!   Yeah, that’s it.

My SP Combination today will be Burnes and Marquez.  I would play Ray on FanDuel.

Scouting Report Profile

Kyle Tyler – Angels

Hopefully the information I got here as we got word that Jose Quintana was sent through waivers to the Giants is accurate and Kyle Tyler will be making his first big league start tonight for the Angels.  The one nice trait about Tyler is that he is a former college pitcher which I tend to prefer with pitchers who make sudden call-ups.  He also had a strong K/9 and strike-out rate this season in AAA but like all young rookie pitchers is someone that we’re not rushing to consider due to a high chance of walks and a short leash. None the less, he does get a Yankee team who comes in off the Sunday night game in Oakland and probably is going to be a little more popular than they should be.  I’m not saying use him, but I am saying he will beat Chris Paddack for what it’s worth tonight and Paddack is likely a chalky cheap option for some.

Houston Astros

Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, Michael Brantley

Guess who’s back…. Back, again…. Douchey’s back…  Tell a friend…  That’s right, Alex Bregman has had enough at bats after his time away from the game nursing his sore whatever you call it and now to get back into a groove coming off a 2 hit game yesterday.  I expect the Houston lineup to give Flexen all sorts of shits, I mean fits, today and Bregman no matter where he gets penciled in is my sleeper play from the Astros as he remains overlooked.  Focus on him along with Tucker/Brantley as good value.

San Diego Padres

Jake Cronenworth, Wil Myers, Nando Tatis, Austin Nola

Somewhere out there today someone is writing “Hey, Tyler Gilbert is a fantastic play because he has amazing BvP against the San Diego Padres, he put up 42 DK points against them in his last start and he owns them.”.  Welcome to the jungle known as Chase Field pissed off and 19 runs being posted on the board tonight because that BvP is about to get corrected the hell out today.
