After an exciting XFINITY race on Saturday, the Cup Series drivers will take to Road America, the 14-turn 4.048-mile road course. The drivers will run 62 laps, more than the XFINITY drivers but still not a worthwhile amount to consider dominators heavily. Similar to that race on Saturday, I’ll be looking for the place differential drivers and those who I expect to have a chance to win.
Byron who qualified poorly at 29th has had success on road courses and should be one of the more popular drivers in the field. The driver of the 24 car has had recent success on road courses which could be driving that popularity as he finished 12th earlier in the year at COTA (after starting 24th) and a 9th-place finish at Sonoma (after starting 20th). Overall on road courses, Byron has six top-10s in his career.
The Penske Racing driver Logano has run 35 road course races in his Cup career with one win, nine top 5’s, 17 top 10s, and an average finish of 14th. Starting 18th, there’s plenty of spots for him to make up in the Penske Ford.
When looking for a cash game floor play Stenhouse could be your guy as he starts 33rd for under 7K. In his career at road courses he has an average finish of 22nd in 27 races.
Jones is another mid-range/value option to consider as far as place differential goes with solid history at road courses. In his 19 road course races he has three top 5’s and and eight top 10’s with an average finish of 15th.
