CBB DFS: The ONIONS – Feb 22

If you are new to the CBB DFS world this year has been very jeckyl and hyde and the clear reason for me specifically is that I tend to be someone who builds ‘balanced’ lineups that focus around a game stack or a 3-3-2/4-2-1-1 type build when correlating plays.

What’s been often the case this year is that you need to go a studs and duds approach.  We have seen quite a few nights where not only is that process working but also the game stack process of getting the right 6k guys to hit 30+ fpts isn’t always hitting.

I still hold to my approach, but certainly tonight is another night with lots of pay up one off options.

Butler at DePaul

This is one game that fits my build process quite well and has two defenses we can attack.  Butler is likely without Manny Bates, which puts Jalen Thomas in another good spot.  His $5400 price makes him chalky and probably good for a 5x spot here.

  • Butler:  Jalen Thomas, Jayden Taylor
  • DePaul:  Nick Ongenda, Umoja Gibson

Alabama at South Carolina

This is a tricky slate to pull game stack triggers on as I mentioned above – but one path I see is Alabama doing what they’ve been prone to do in the past which is have a let down game where they sleep defensively and let a bad team hang around.  Given that they’re coming off an utter beatdown on Georgia and going on the road this could be that spot to let SC hang around and make both sides options.

To make matters worse, the program has a lot of noise surrounding it right now off the court which isn’t positive and while Sindarius Thornwell and the ole Cocks aren’t walking through that door we can maybe convince ourselves to bank on the Men’s team looking halfway as good as their womens team.

  • Bama:  Jaden Bradley, Brandon Miller
  • SC:  Hayden Brown, Meechie Johnson

Wake Forest at N.C. State

I won’t be going here for too much of a game stack but that’s only because of the difficulty that would present in building a full lineup.  DJ Burns went off in their prior meeting and I just missed pulling the trigger on him in that game, I think we’re gonna see Wake play well here to maybe cover the 6 but the scoring is spread out on both sides.

  • Wake – Foul trouble was somewhat of an issue in the first meeting, but Appleby and Hildreth are the only options I would consider.
  • NC State – Terquavion Smith and Jarkel Joiner are obvious options but Casey Morsell makes the most sense at his 7,000 price

Syracuse at Clemson

Of all the bigs on this slate, PJ Hall is among my favorites tonight and nobody ever got broke simply attacking Syracuse games.

  • Judah Mintz
  • Brevin Galloway
  • PJ Hall

Others:

  1. Judah Mintz (SYR)

  5. Jamal Shead (Houston)

FORWARDS

CORE PLAYS

Forward is very tough to go through tonight but as has been the case often this year there is a depth among the pay up options and thus I don’t see a path where not having of them works out…

So we are deciding among Bacot, Tschibwe, Miller, Edwards, Broome, Hall, KJ Williams and Walker.

  • PJ Hall (Clemson) – $8,700 … Hall is the only one I have a hard time ignoring.  Bigs vs the ‘Cuse Zone typically pay off.
  • Nick Ongenda (DPU)

Others:

  1. DJ Burns (NCST)
  2. Jayden Gardner (UVA)
  3. Josh Gray (SC)
  4. Brandon Miller (Bama) … I have no issue going here tonight in a gamestack only
  5. Leaky Black (UNC) … If you want 24-28 points, here you go.  Won’t go above that mark.

VALUE

  • Jalen Thomas (Butler) … Above 5k but still a good ‘value’
  • Brevin Galloway (Clemson)
  • Jason Jitobah (Florida) … The top sub 4k play to justify paying up elsewhere.
  • Josh Gray (SCAR)
  • Trey Thomas (Vandy)
  • Riley Kugel (Florida)
