The Dongers Club – Oct 15

WEATHER Some nasty weather in Cleveland with 17 mph winds out to RF and a chance of some light rain.  All four games should get in today though. [spacer height=”10px”] LANCE MCCULERS There are some things in this world that when our eyes see them we get that special tingle in our body.  The first time your kid walks, the first time your kid gets a base hit, when your wife is making cookies around the holidays and when a pitcher is locked in to throw a 1-0 gem in a playoff game like Lance McCullers will do tonight. CHARLIE MORTON An interesting move by the Braves to shift the bullpen game into game three and then Morton in game 4.  I think it was brilliant because the Phillies were no doubt going to win game three with a ton of emotion yesterday and now they can get their lone hope uncle Charlie out there to send them back to Atlanta where Fried will lose game 5 — because Fried dominates Phillies in Philly only. Morton pitches a gem today. JOE MUSGROVE Gonna be lots of pressure on Musgrove tonight.  Not only is he pitching after the sweaty ear incident but he will be in front of his idol Jake Peavy who is throwing out the first pitch tonight.  Should be an all time classic game with the Dodgers on the brink of elimination. [spacer height=”10px”] YANKEES / GUARDIANS Donaldson, Stanton, Kwan, Naylor, Ramirez The wind actually isnt an issue for McKenzie because he is heavy reverse splits and will see a heavy RHH lineup today.  But this was the same guy we rode to a sneaky start vs the Yankees at home earlier this season and so he won’t get completely blown up by those splits. But he will give up a homer to Josh Donaldson and Luis Severino will definitely struggle to keep the Guardians off the bases.  This isnt a 13-11 type game or anything like that, we don’t get those in the playoffs anymore since they swapped the balls back out.  But this is a good DFS spot. BRAVES Olson, Riley, Harris ASTROS Pena, Bregman, Tucker, Maldanado Houston has always hit well in Seattle and should get the sweep out of the way with a 4 run spot in the first few innings. spacer height=”10px”] CATCHER Martin Maldanado Austin Hedges [spacer height=”10px”] FIRST BASE Josh Naylor […]

The Dongers Club – Oct 14

WEATHER No issues for the three game slate today. [spacer height=”10px”] Shane Bieber I was expecting some offense in this game had it played last night, but the shift to this afternoon has me back on the pitchers.  I just don’t love day games for offense in the new Yankee stadium and the extra day off should not help out hitting, especially New York who has really only had one game to hit in over a week. Tony Gonsolin Yes, I like San Diego to win the series and tonight would need to be a HUGE win for them, but honestly I wouldn’t be shocked to see Gonsolin return to his early and mid season form when he was easily the Dodgers most consistent pitcher every day. [spacer height=”10px”] DARK HORSE Blake Snell Playoff Snell ya later?  He’s been great at home, so maybe there is some hope there. [spacer height=”10px”] BRAVES / PHILLIES Shadows?  Shadows???  You think Shadows are gonna keep me off this game?  Child, please.  Nah, the game with the mid afternoon issues is going to be out in PETCO Park (or so I hope).  This is the pivot I am making as the series shifts into Philadelphia where we should see a nice boost of offense from both sides of the plate. The Braves are gonna hit well here but the Phillies will rally big time behind the crowd. Ladies and gentlemen.  Please welcome to the 2022 playoffs, Mr. Rhys Hoskins and Mr. Kyle Schwarber. spacer height=”10px”] CATCHER Travis d’Arnaud Will Smith [spacer height=”10px”] FIRST BASE Rhys Hoskins Matt Olson [spacer height=”10px”] SECOND BASE Chris Taylor Orlando Arcia [spacer height=”10px”] THIRD BASE Alec Bohm Austin Riley Michael Jack Schmidt Terry Pendleton [spacer height=”10px”] SHORTSTOP Trea Turner Dansby Swanson [spacer height=”10px”] OUTFIELD Kyle Schwarber Michael Harris II Marcell Ozuna Nick Castellanos [spacer height=”10px”] Kyle Schwarber – OF – Phillies – Chairman of The Dongers Club Rhys Hoskins – 1B – Phillies Travis d’Arnaud – C – Braves Michael Harris II – OF – Braves Austin Riley – 3B – Braves Chris Taylor – 2B – Dodgers [spacer height=”12px”] CORE Gee, I wonder which game I am stacking? NHL DFS: The Slapshot – Oct, 13

TNF Showdown: Commanders @ Bears

Game Theory Amazon should just cancel this game and replace it with any other sporting event tonight.  Priority would be one of the two College games, a hockey game, or maybe a e-Sports Womens Volleyball match-up.  Any of those things would do better than this garbage. So with that said, it’s probably gonna be a […]

The Dongers Club – Oct 11th

SERIES PREVIEWS Today’s starters listed in ()’s Phillies (Suarez) at Braves (Fried) Can the Phillies win this series?  Absolutely, and in fact I am giving good chances to three of the four wild card teams who moved on and you have to consider the Phillies among the best positioned of them with how Wheeler and Nola look to be locked in right now.  Unfortunately, they are facing the Braves who have the perfect set of arms in the bullpen for a five game series and have their pitching lined up to win games 1 and 2 at home.  But I am sticking with my prediction before these series kick off and thats Atlanta & L.A. losing Prediction:  Phillies in 5 Mariners (Gilbert) at Astros (Verlander) This is the one spot I do not see the wild card team having any chance.  Seattle has yet to really get over the Houston hump and much like Atlanta, the Astros are setup perfectly for their rotation compared to what Seattle has.  The major difference is I trust Houston’s hitting a little bit more than Atlanta’s out of the gate.  So look for Houston to make quick business with a 4 game series win.  I’ll give Seattle one win at home. Prediction:  Astros in 4 Guardians (Quantrill) at Yankees (Cole) My favorite upset in the American League is going to be the Guardians over the Yankees.  I think New York is a flawed team in many regards and the Guardians are that not great, but just perfect team to come in and give the favorites a headache in a short series.  Cleveland’s pitching is going to dominate and the hitting will be sneaky on every DFS slate in this round. Prediction:  Guardians in 4 Padres (Clevinger) at Dodgers (Urias) And now the series I didn’t think we would see, but here we are.  Should this one have the most juice in it?  Absolutely.  It’s going to go five games and I would bet that every game is the opposite of the first one, which means tonights game decides the series in a weird way. Prediction:  Padres in 5 [spacer height=”10px”] WEATHER No issues and some great fall weather once again. [spacer height=”10px”] Max Fried Fried will go 100+ pitches, not give up a ton of hard contact, strike out a few Phillies and go from there.  I am concerned about early inning walks and […]
