The Dongers Club – Tue, April 6th

On Sunday I wrote that Paul Goldschmidt was going to not get a 0 and if he did get a 0 that I would run a free-roll contest with a Dongers Club Swag prize tonight.  Well, thank you Paul Goldschmidt for the free brand advertisement I guess because he didn’t get a single point.  Not one.  Not two.  Not three.  Not four.  Not five.  Not six.   Zero.  Point.   Zero.   So with that said, I must stick to my guns, but what fun is just a single game contest for some Dongers Club Swag?  Nah.  Let’s officially launch the April prize series.  Here are the details. There will be a contest every Tuesday Main slate in April (6th, 13th, 20th, 27th) Contest is free, no prizes paid out on the DFS site– this is because of the DK limitations on sizing. Your top 3 average scores from the four contests will be used to create a total overall average.  So you don’t have to play all four, but you need to play in at least three of them. Highest average score across all four wins the top prize:   Dongers Club Mug of your choice or 1 Month free site credit.  You decide. BONUS:  If you score the highest point total on April 27th  (the 4th leg)  you receive 10 bonus points for the May contest. Your membership must still be active as of April 27th to win any prizes. April 6th – Entry Link:  https://www.draftkings.com/draft/contest/106050708 Also one other general site note:   Yes, I am working on migrating the entire site/platform over to a new server/environment which will be cleaner and faster.     WEATHER We have an April game in Texas on the main slate and this is note worthy because last year in the dead of summer with the roof closed the ballpark played exactly like I anticipated which was towards the Pitchers.  But the roof is open and it’s upper 70’s with the wind blowing out to left field.  It’s not really known how much the wind will impact things since it’s a giant COSTCO warehouse building they are playing in — but there are some panels which should be open and I would expect a little boost for hitting here.   Not to mention Tanner Roark is in the building. Sub 50 and wind blowing in at Coors Field.  Not to mention two bad offenses.   LUCAS GIOLITO […]

The Dongers Club – Mon, April 5th

Brace yourself for a wild week in MLB DFS scheduling.  There are a TON of mid afternoon games all week this week — including a wild Wednesday slate and a mini Friday slate.  Mostly this is due to the MLB schedule and teams who were on the road last weekend opening up their season at home either today, tomorrow or Friday of this week.  Some of the schedule start times are very questionable — including the desire for teams to continue to play 6:30 PM EST games which has the sites including them on a mini slate before the main slates. All in all, I think there was a lot to DISLIKE about the fact that we had a five game Friday slate and then two FIVE game slates on Saturday.  Basically, it might feel like the season is a Month old but we haven’t had a ‘normal’ slate yet.  Tonight is close to that with seven games on a Monday night, but you gotta remember we have had Opening Day Three five game slates spread out over two days (Fri/Sat) A Sunday slate That’s it so far.  We haven’t had the nice routine of Mon-Tue-Wed 9-13-10 game slates.  It’s coming and I greatly prefer that routine so hopefully we start to get lock at 6:40 PM EST in stead of 7:05 when those spots arise. In other news, the Warden heard me playing Opera Music as a result of having MPE removed on FanDuel and has brought it back today, so we’re going down into isolation because the morons at FanDuel are just being Obtuse.   WEATHER There are no issues today, and it is a little chilly out in Anaheim for the Astros/Angels game which really brings me sadness as it’s a good spot. Expect the roof to be closed in Seattle which helps hitting slightly.     Jake from deGrom Don’t worry, everything is going to go surprisingly good because like a good neighbor, Jake de Grom is just that good.   First start of the season for deGrom and he hasn’t pitched in a little longer than he would have liked since the Mets opening series vs Washington was PPD.  But still, for only $10.7k tonight you can get by with even a mediocre outing from deGrom.  I am not expecting him to blow the slate up, but I will take the free points as an […]

The Dongers Club – Sunday, April 4th

Now we are talking, Sunday Baseball!   Happy Easter and welcome to the good times as flowers start to bloom near me, birds are chirping and soon I’ll be out driving around or riding on the mower or just sitting on my ass listening to Baseball around 3PM on a Sunday afternoon waiting for that one more AB to push us over the top. Quick glance on the afternoon slate of games today and I have to ask why we have teams not playing on a Sunday?  I get that it’s early in the season and all but there is no reason ever for teams to not be playing on Sunday afternoon and so we need that resolved going forward thank you. Next thing that stands out is that there’s just not much great hitting today and I must remind myself (and you) that early in the year you just ride the teams who are hitting and the stadiums/weather environments where it’s comfortable for hitting over others. As I went through doing the positional break down I noticed something … Whit Merrifield is only OF again on FD.  Jose Ramirez is only 3B… wait…  Can it be true?   Did my emails and constant tweets finally ring true??  Yes!  FanDuel has removed MPE from their contests.  I am like Andy Dufrene in Shawshank when he got his books and now I can just write twice as many letters to get other things changed.  Crank up the Opera Song ladies and gentlemen.  We did it!   WEATHER With all day games obviously it’s a little warmer, but still cool and comfortable in most areas.  The only wind that is of note is in Kauffman stadium but it’s really just under the threshold where we start to get too excited about it.  Otherwise good weather everywhere for Baseball today.   Outside of not doing Berrios last night the pitching wasn’t an issue at all yesterday, so let’s get a repeat of that in what I think is a better pitching slate than others expect.   Brady Singer (Royals) I warned everyone last year before Singer came up that I was going to make my Jakub Junis man crush look like nothing once Singer came along.  He has something that I expect to make him great which Junis doesn’t have. This is the part where you just mumbled to yourself some snide comment like, […]

The Dongers Club – April 3rd

WEATHER No issues tonight in any of the games and the roof likely is open in Milwaukee which helps the pitchers (although Berrios not a fan of the cold). Overall a relatively quiet slate.   Corbin Burnes (Brewers) This is a great pitching match-up between Burnes and Berrios, but it’s Burnes who I want.  He mostly has to navigate around just keeping Luis Arraez off base to lead things off and then I like his stuff against Polanco, Buxton, Kepler and Sano.  Look for a good strikeout game from Burnes tonight. Joe Musgrove (Padres) Now is the time to go to PETCO for pitching.  Cold and wind blowing in for San Diego, where game time temp of 62 degrees might send the fans packing for sweatshirts out there.   Should be a low scoring game overall and the Padres are just flexing on the Diamondbacks late in the games so if he can get the lead, he will hold on for the win.   Contrarian 3rd SP Choice Caleb Smith game stack with Musgrove.   Another Coors Field slate with limited other options out there.   It is, what it is …  Really just one main game to focus a stack around tonight. WHITE SOX vs LA ANGELS Ohtani, Trout, Moncada, Robert Hello Mr. Saturday Night Special Mike Trout.  You know Lance Lynn has extreme splits to the negative against LHB so Ohtani batting 2nd again should be on your minds, but outside of him the Angels might get overlooked because they have mostly RH bats.  Well, they also have down in the zone Saturday night Mike Trout and that’s where he will thrive.  Trout has hit 2 HR so far this season, but unfortunately they both were left of the foul pole in left field.  He’ll correct the timing tonight. For the White Sox, does it really matter if such a hard hitting team gets a guy who gives up a ton of hard contact?  Probably not, but Luis Robert and Yoan Moncada are my focal plays here.  3B is a dumpster tonight so that’s Moncada and Luis Robert just hits the ball hard and has big game potential every time out vs a bad pitcher.   Contrarian Stack Milwaukee Brewers – We get a spot where the Brewers can beat up on a somewhat chalky (30%~) Jose Berrios who usually isn’t great early in the season.  Yelich-Shaw-Hiura the CORE.   […]

The Dongers Club – April 3rd Early

Some might look at today’s split slate and complain that we don’t have one main big slate and I understand that.  However, it’s so glorious to have both FD and DK match-up with a 5 game 1PM slate and a 5 game 7PM slate, so this means we don’t have to list certain games on one site and not another.  Which for me is a victory. This article is the early slate version, and yes, I am doing an evening slate article too.  It’s only day 3 people, we got a long ways to go.   WEATHER All five games play without any issues Pittsburgh at Chicago:   Higher winds blowing out and temps above 60 degrees.  Should be very favorable for hitting.   Zach Plesac (Indians) We really just want someone who can get us a good amount of strikeouts on this early slate which has some cold weather games but some bad pitching going.  The Tigers against a RHP will be a top strikeout target once again this season and Plesac is no slouch with a 27% strikeout rate, almost identical to RH & LH hitters as well so no concerns with the Tigers switch hitters.  I personally don’t feel Cleveland is a good team this year, but they should be able to win this game. Mike Minor (Royals) I didn’t wanna go with a pitcher against his former team, but the choices outside of Plesac and Minor for 2SP on DraftKings are really bad.  The Royals are counting on Minor to get back to his old form and give them a veteran arm who can get them simply to the 6th inning where the bullpen can start to re-claim its mark as one of the better ones in the league.  Texas got a lot of ground ball success against Keller on Thursday but should not have a similarly easy time today.   Third longshot SP Tyler Anderson – His ground ball numbers in SF last year went away, almost as if he decided he didn’t have to do that anymore now that he was out of Coors Field.  The Wind should be blowing out at Wrigley which would potentially hurt him if he doesn’t go back to his old Coors ways but the Cubs offense isn’t good.   If we solely went off the weather in these games today the Rangers/Royals, Pirates/Cubs games would be the offense […]

The Dongers Club – April 2nd

Yesterday was fun to see Baseball in action with fans everywhere and somewhat back to normal.  Forget that the Nationals and Mets seemingly are going back to 2020 style and just be happy with what we have right now and that appears to be a real full baseball season with good attendance growing as the season progresses along. Tonight is just a small slate which is normal for the second day of the season and a good way to continue to ease into things.  It honestly feels like a Monday slate tonight and most of the games are out on the west coast.   WEATHER There are weather no issues today     So the Marlins and Rays obviously did not go over and those two pitchers were the primary two to own yesterday.  I expect we see lots of chasing in the SP game stack scenario there today and that to me is just being a blind sheep without giving full consideration to who is actually pitching and the actual likelihood that we see another low scoring game there.  It’s not a spot I want to rush towards personally. Once again today forces me to decide if I want to push in the chips on my belief that pitchers in A) New Teams and B) Change of leagues are going to struggle in their first couple of starts.  Both Blake Snell and Trevor Bauer look like guys who should pitch well tonight but they both fit one or two (Snell) of those molds.  Honestly, Bauer is the type of kid who can go into Coors Field and engineer his way to a dominant outing but even though he will get the win today (Dodgers bats — see below) I do not expect Bauer to have that chemistry game yet in Coors.  Wait till his third trip there and then expect him to do something phenomenal.  So for now, we fade. Merrill Kelly (Diamondbacks) I conceded long ago that I was wrong initially on Kelly when he first started pitching for Arizona.  There is nothing sexy about him but he is efficient and in the scoring world of FanDuel — he is Quality.  Six innings, 3 or fewer runs allowed, five strikeouts and not too many base runners.  The Padres have a bevy of bats who can MASH lefties, but whenever we get them vs a RH like Kelly […]
