It’s become commonplace in DFS now and it’s a term that’s frequently thrown around. “Stack” or “Stacking” is heavily referenced whenever you hear “experts” talking about winning in DFS. Let me make one thing clear. First of all, I’m no expert and second of all stacking isn’t the only way to win. Stacking is a very boom or bust proposition more often than not but it isn’t the end all be all. There needs to be a purpose when stacking. We’re not just going into contests and blindly stacking teams for unrealistic, farfetched potential correlation plays, they have to make sense.
This is my breakdown as part of a regular series of articles I’ll produce every week of the NFL season and it will break down what stacks I’m looking to build around in GPP contests for that particular week. Some weeks I’ll dive into four or five stacks but others there could only be two or three I have my eye on. Remember, there’s no sense in stacking just because you heard it repeated 87 times on the radio.
Stacks That I Have My Eye On
Below I’ll break down the particular stacks I’m interested and delve into it based on matchup, ability, predicted game script, and collective salary while picking an opposing player or two to run that stack back with if appropriate.*Note: All pricing is DraftKings focused
Indianapolis Colts (vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
QB Carson Wentz, WR Michael Pittman
While there’s much attention being paid to Jonathan Taylor after his monster effort last week I’m looking at the Colts’ passing game here in a matchup against a run-funnel defense with Tampa Bay. Wentz hasn’t thrown multiple touchdowns in either of his last two games breaking a six-game streak of doing so. With Taylor’s efforts over the past two weeks specifically Wentz hasn’t needed to do much passing the ball. Thus Michael Pittman’s numbers have been down over the past couple of games but during Wentz’s strong stretch Pittman had five touchdown receptions and the bulk of the targets.
Run it back: WR Chris Godwin and/or WR Mike Evans
While it can be argued that Mike Evans is the stronger upside play here I don’t see anyone covering Godwin either and therefore I’ll lean on the Perceived volume that Godwin will see. If feeling bullish on this game I don’t hate the idea of using both Godwin and Evans in this stack as part of a game stack because I think that there’s enough offense in this game to produce very good fantasy efforts for both.
Green Bay Packers (vs. Los Angeles Rams)
QB Aaron Rodgers, WR Davante Adams
As we discussed on the stream on Friday night there is a clear path in my eyes for the Packers scoring on Sunday afternoon. I see Rodgers coming in here and throwing the ball 35-40 times en route to a monster effort in a close, contested game. Most of the production as usual should go to Davante Adams who will see a lot of Jalen Ramsey but I honestly couldn’t care less. I’m not going overthink this from the Packers’ side with Rodgers looking to come out and make a statement at home.
Run it back: WR Cooper Kupp
There’s enough value on this slate to lock in both Adams and Kupp, who both will be popular by the way, in the same lineup. Kupp is basically a lock button with a matchup primarily in the slot that he’ll have the advantage to all day. There isn’t much more to say about Kupp here.
Philadelphia Eagles (at New York Giants)
QB Jalen Hurts, TE Dallas Goedert
The Eagles’ offense over the past two weeks has primarily had Hurts lining up in the shotgun with Nick Siriani running the offense focused on Hurts running the ball. Hurts hasn’t thrown the ball much over the past two weeks (23, and 24 attempts) but Goedert saw eight targets last week. While there’s merit to pairing Hurts with Devonta Smith I simply worry about the lack of pass volume from Hurts of late. I’d prefer to pay $4,800 for Goedert and his red-zone/short to intermediate prowess than $6,400 for Smith who might have minimal targets.
Run it back: RB Saquon Barkley
Although the Eagles’ run defense has improved it’s still not all there as far as stopping a dynamic running back like Barkley. Barkley is priced in a favorable spot especially against the Eagles who allow a lot of receptions to running backs and that’s a good sign for Barkley who had six receptions last week.
GOOD LUCK!!
