NFL DFS: Tuesday Night Football Core Plays – Week 15
Overview
With a special two-game slate on Tuesday night I’ve gone through and highlighted some of my core plays. These are plays that I’ll be heavily reliant on in my tournament lineups. Typically on short slates like this and the 4:00 p.m. Eastern slates on Sunday’s I’ll shy away from cash games and stick to three, five, and 20-max tournaments or anything there in between. I hope this helps as we get a bonus night of the NFL.
My Core Plays
QB Jalen Hurts (PHI)
The Eagles offense, whether we like it or not runs through Jalen Hurts both literally and figuratively. We saw with Hurts out last week backup Gardiner Minshew was able to lead Philly to a 33-18 win over the god-awful Jets. Fast forward to tonight and we get Hurts who should return against a Washington team that has had some issues on defense, but they still pose a strong-ish pass rush. Taking into consideration Hurts’ price ($6,500) and his ability to run the upside here is strong. Ideally, if Hurts is flushed out because of that pass rush he’ll have the ability to take off running. In a situation in which Hurts will be leaned on to throw he should be productive against a secondary that lines up as one of the worst in the NFC if not the NFL.
RB Antonio Gibson (WFT)
Regardless of the matchup or ownership on a slate like this, where running back options are limited, I want the volume and that’s what we’ll get with Antonio Gibson. J.D. McKissic has been ruled out and after a piss-poor effort last week against the Cowboys, Gibson is due for a bounceback and he’s well-rested after only handling 12 touches in that game.
RB Rashaad Penny (SEA)
Speaking of volume, Penny saw over 60 percent of the snaps last week and handled 17 touches (16 carries) for well over 100 yards and two touchdowns. Yes, it was against the Texans and the Rams defense poses much more of a tough front to run against. Regardless, Penny is just $5,400 and LOOKS to be the main running back in town. With the salary relief and optimism comes the possibility of this play blowing up in my face.
*NOTE: If there’s more clarity on the Darrell Henderson, Sony Michel situation for the Rams I might pivot my position here to the perceived bell-cow back from there but for now my highest rostered RB2 will be Penny.
WR Odell Beckham, Jr. (LAR)
It would be easy to lock in Cooper Kupp ($8,800) but the price drop off with Beckham ($4,900) will benefit overall roster construction. This, of course, is not to say that I won’t have plenty of Kupp across my rosters, I just expect that I’ll have more OBJ. Beckham has seen 10, five, and seven targets over the last three weeks resulting in five, two, and six receptions with 81, 28, and 77 receiving yards while scoring in each contest. Stafford seems to have found a bit of a connection with him and in a good passing matchup look for Beckham and his value to be met. Ownership should be high here as OBJ is the seventh-highest-priced receiver on the slate in the neighborhood of guys like teammate Van Jefferson ($5,400) and a duo from Washington in Adam Humphries ($3,800) and Deandre Carter ($3,600).
WR D.K. Metcalf (SEA)
While some have joked around and referred to the stand-out receiver as “Decoy” Metcalf, the former Ole Miss talent has thrived against the Rams over his last two matchups. In those games, he’s recorded two touchdowns in each while hauling in a total of 10 receptions for 98 and 96 yards respectively. Regardless of Tyler Lockett’s status (COVID protocols) tonight, one would assume that Wilson will look Metcalf’s way. Regardless of some lackluster performances of late, Metcalf has seen eight targets in each of his last two games.
TE Dallas Goedert (PHI)
The pass-catcher I’ll be looking to stack with Hurts the most will be Goedert, the best tight end on a slate in which I expect most to take the value options. Goedert had a monster effort last week with Minshew under center and should be utilized again against Washington who has allowed over 15 DK points to the tight end position on five occasions this season.
