Sunday Dongers Club – July 10th

Welcome to a light Sunday slate which is unusual this time of year but we have a good amount of late afternoon games and of course the Brunch game which this week has stolen away from us the battle of the Angels and Orioles sadly.

Good news, Yankees vs Red Sox is on Sunday Night Baseball.

Bad news, Yankees vs Red Sox is on Sunday Night Baseball.

The Rangers and Twins game is only on FanDuel, I wish it was on DraftKings honestly today.

WEATHER

No issues, all games will play.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Pitching is kinda weird today and you should not feel like there is any one player that you “have” to have.  Sandy Alcantara has a tough spot vs the Mets and the Sunday Citi Field overs is definitely in play although his opponent Taijuan Walker is likely to be the chalky guy who could do well there.

The game in Cincinnati is the smallest park on the slate and features two young pitchers who both look like they have favorable match-ups but definitely have risk to just not have their stuff today.

MICHAEL KOPECH

I think Chicago wins today but it’s not their offense which I see carrying them.  Kopech hasn’t been dominant since June 7th when he shut down the Dodgers with 8K, 0ER over 6 innings.  The limits on him seem to be relaxed as well throwing 99 pitches two starts ago and the Tigers certainly aren’t known for drawing a ton of walks.  The wind is not an issue in Chicago and we have relatively low humidity here too so any long ball issues are out the window too.

All total, I am willing to pick on Detroit here more than anything else, so Kopech is my top arm today by a nose.

ERIC LAUER

As great as Sandy Alcantara has been I am not expecting him to push out a 30 spot today vs the Mets, so Lauer is the only top end pitcher to look at.  He has always been someone I’ve felt is over-rated and probably isn’t worth 10k on most slates but the K% upside for him is definitely there if he can keep the ball in the park.

SHANE BAZ

When you have a 40% whiff rate on your 1b pitch (Slider) and your opponent (Cincy) has 7 of their 9 batters with 20%+ strikeout rate on that pitch it figures that you would wind up at the top of our model and thus we have Shane Baz creeping his way into our lives.  Cincinnati isn’t hitting much again and Baz fits the profile of the type of pitchers we want to use today.  Someone who is mid priced and has K% upside

OTHER PITCHING THOUGHTS …

Here is who I do not want … Jose Quintana, Zach Plesac, Dylan Bundy (FD)

Nick Lodolo (LHP) vs the Rays without Wander Franco is most definitely the best ‘value’ pitcher option but Baz is ahead of him in the same game and you probably don’t need that drastic cheap SP2 on DraftKings today.  If he gets you 13 are you excited?

ROYALS

Merrifield, Benintendi, Witt, Pasquantino

Welcome to the Vinnie Pasquantino show and when he see’s Zach Plesac he is going to remind him to F*** his mother and for that reason we are stacking the Royals my friends…

You think I’m kidding?  I’m not.  You think I’m funny?  Like what, the way I talk?  Funny how.  What’s so funny here.  Let me understand this, because how?  I amuse you, I make you laugh?  Im a clown?  Like funny how, ha-ha funny?  What the **** is so funny about stacking the Royals.

There are only 7 games on DraftKings and 8 on FanDuel, so yeah, the Royals are my top team today

BREWERS

Brosseau, Adames, Caratini, McCutchen

There are two key value hitters that likely could be in the lineup today.  One is catcher Victor Caratini and the other is 3B eligible Mike Brosseu.  These two guys hit lefties well and along with Willy Adames will need to have a big game for this stack to pay off.

BRAVES

Acuna, Riley, Ozuna

A bad fastball pitcher against a good fastball team.  Riley and Acuna get a very soft match-up but if Marcell Ozuna doesn’t homer today then fire up some conspiracy theory that he’s tanking or something because he slugs .979 vs RH Fastballs and .620 vs RH Sliders.

OTHER GAME THOUGHTS

The Nationals should find a way to get to Ian Anderson again but I am curious to see what lineup they roll out.  Soto is likely going to play again but if for whatever reason he sits then Anderson is gonna cruise through.

The White Sox might look sexy with Yoan Moncada leading off but they can’t do shit vs Sliders and Hutchinson despite having a very below avg slider should be able to keep them at bay.  They’re tempting as always though.
