It appears the dog days of August definitely came early and in hindsight we probably should have seen any team traveling for games yesterday being a little dicey, as lots of home teams wound up winning except for the -330 favored Dodgers of course.

WEATHER
We appear to be free and clear of any PPD risk again on this Tuesday evening which brings of an 84 degree game in Coors Field between the visiting Chicago team from the American League which is very under-priced on both sites. This is the only game where a shower or two could roll through and cause a delay.

LUIS H GARCIA
Oakland has won three out of four and took the opener last night from Houston because Houston decided to let Odorizzi continue to pitch in Major League Baseball. Idiots. Expect 6 innings of almost no hit ball from Garcia tonight. Lots of ground ball outs and lazy pop flys.
MIKE CLEVINGER
After the scolding that Manaea ownership took last night we could see Sunshine come in as a guy that gets overlooked against those same pesky Tigers. He’s a better graded SP than Manaea was last night for sure, and that’s not a way of backing off the pick yesterday but we knew the SP slate was trash yesterday and went with it.
This isn’t that. Clevinger is far beyond his limitations coming off major injury and gets a RH heavy lineup in the heart of the order, he should have a 7 to 8 strikeout performance tonight.
SHANE McCLANAHAN
I am driving the bandwagon which says Shane slows down in the second half as he runs into an innings wall. But there isn’t a single Oriole tonight who I like and they have a 27% DCPA strikeout matchup vs Shane. He should get through one more start tonight with solid results.
SPENCER STRIDER
I have wrote about guys like Strider and Cease needing to show that they can go deep into games without just trying to strike out the side and I don’t know that we’re gonna see that yet from Strider, but the Phils do have a high K% vs RHP and after giving up 5 ER in his last outing maybe Strider can match Nola in what is likely a good back and forth pitching contest today.
He likely does have to deal with a HR to Schwarber or Hall but it won’t be a ton of damage and he should not fall short of 7+ strikeouts after the Phils had to deal with crafty Fried last night. I kinda think teams having to face Fried then Strider is a huge advantage for Strider as well.

Other Options
The top of the list guys, McClanahan, Strider, Nola and Rodon are all limited from having gotta have them or log off games, so I don’t feel like jamming them in but would only tell you to not bother with McClanahan and Rodon.
Although the Cardinals are without Arenado and Goldschmidt tonight and tomorrow, we do not see that favor Jose Berrios enough to use him because the Cards will have extra lefties in the lineup.
Too close to the trade deadline to look at Frankie Montas seriously.

RANDOM THOUGHTS
I heard something great on the Dodgers radio broadcast last night. They commented on how with such a great record built up so far they do not need to push their starters (SP or hitters) hard every game and it is so true. With that comes a little complacency and I swear LA is a first half stack and not the second half team. Yes, Mookie-Freddie-Trea have turned it on of late but the rest of the guys aren’t doing shit and so I just don’t think we need to buy into the narrative that LA is gonna “bounce back” after getting beat by the Nationals. Will they win? Probably yes, but I am not rushing to LA every time they are off a loss in the second half. Now if they lose 3 in a row, then I’ll wake up and join in.
Don’t be afraid to have value punt plays today, they are in a good spot. It’s almost like a stars and scrubs hitter night.
