Had another decent week last week considering it was a No-Cut event. We’re back to the normal Friday cut this week which I like. However, we’re also back to the field where you ask “who the Hell is that guy” more than “should I play Player A or Player B”. In short, this field sucks!
Seonghyeon Kim, who I like and really didn’t play well last week, is $9,600 compared to $7,100 last week. So, a 64th place finish results in a $2,500 price increase? Thus, the quality of the field summed up looking at one player week over week.
I’ll be honest with you. Each week, I play between $150 and $200 in lineups and usually single-entries for $50 or less. Last week, since I’ve had a couple of decent weeks, I played the $200 SE and finished 34th out of 555. I’m reinvesting that this week in only two entries – $150 SE and $200 SE. I want the one-bullet per person with a reasonably small number of entries in weeks like this. Shitty fields sometimes play into the hands of MME players.
Highlights: Port Royal Golf Club – Par 71 @ 6,828 yards; Short course with several Par 4s under 450 yards; Narrow fairways but non-punishing rough; coastal winds could be the biggest challenge.

$9,000 and Above
- Thomas Detry ($10,500) – First and foremost, I don’t like this price. However, he’s playing more than a lot of guys this Fall and playing well. Assuming we can get reasonable “fits” in the $8K range for our other five, he’s viable. At first glance, I’m not optimistic. Denny McCarthy ($10,400) also falls into this category for me although his course history her is pretty good (T39-T4-T15).
On both of these guys, it’s not the player, it’s the price! If you want to take a chance with John Daly ($6,000) to balance it out, both of these guys could be feasible. But, really, John Daly?
- Russell Knox ($9,200)** – He’s not setting the world on fire, but he’s also the only player above $9K that’s played here each of the last three years and has Top 20s in all of them. If we have a “course horse”, it’s Knox.
- Adrian Meronk ($10,300) – Here’s a “who the Hell is this guy” guy! This is also a guy that wouldn’t carry a 5-figure price in a normal field. I can’t deny his play though. 17 out of 20 in made cuts and mostly on the DP World Tour.
- Patrick Rodgers ($9,700)** – He’s been playing reasonably well and is priced higher, again, because of the field quality. He finished fourth here last year and is coming off a T16 at ZOZO so, I’m inclined to go a little lower and save some money.

$7,500 to $8,900
- Austin Eckroat ($8,300)** – One of the better new players on the Tour. He’s been playing and making cuts, but his finishes aren’t spectacular. However, this is a field where guys like him can contend. T22 here last year.
- Adam Schenk ($8,700)** – Playing well recently with two Top 20s in his last two appearances.
- Will Gordon ($8,600)
- Lucas Glover ($7,500) – He’s one of the more experienced players in this event even though he’s never played the event. A few years back, Lucas was an auto-start at this price. He’s made his last 5 cuts and I think that this week is more about getting 5 or 6 through to the weekend that it is about name recognition.

Under $7,000
- Chad Ramey ($6,900)** – Course history.
- Brian Gay ($6,700)** – Course history – including a win in 2021 – but has been playing on the Champions Tour where he is 14/14 in cuts made. He has a wrist injury but based on his play there, it appears to be fine.
- David Hearn ($6,400) – 3 for 3 in cuts made here including two Top 10 finishes
- John Daly ($6,000) – if this is all you have left for your last golfer, good luck! But it is the walking Wild Card and, at least, he has the skills to make the cut if he doesn’t run out of cigarettes.
