The Slapshot – Feb 23rd

Ten game NHL slate tonight and just one team who is playing on a B2B which is Calgary on a road back to back in Vegas.  We also have the used diaper filled with Indian Food on the slate tonight, so that’s an easy win too, and no, I am not talking about the Penguins.

Minnesota Wild

Eriksson-Ek, Boldy, Goligoski … Zuccarello

Oh. My. God.  They’re gonna murder Columbus.  The Blue Jackets haven’t played since Feb 19th, teams coming off a long layoff like that are generally auto fades and struggle big time.  The Blue Jackets are generally a team that struggles in general.  Second line on the road Eriksson-Ek and Boldy with some Goligoski PP value.  Don’t mind Zuccarello if you have other spots filled as a one off here too

Vancouver Canucks

Pettersson, Kuzmenko, Beauvillier – Hughes

Riding going against St. Louis.  Like the value on the second line too but really we’re taking the winger value here.

Tampa Bay Lightning

I’m just gonna give you a GIF here and you can figure it out from there.

Washington Capitals

Strome – Oshie – Mantha – Gustafsson

UPDATE:  Ovechkin is back tonight.  First game after his father’s death.  Do with that what you will – below is what I had wrote up before he was announced back tonight.

I coach youth basketball and one thing that I frequently remind my middle school basketball players is to trust what they see and react without hesitation.  Such is the case with what I see against the Anaheim Ducks right now which is them just not handling depth of other teams.

Maybe not a ton but they are dirt cheap throughout this lineup and you have a veteran on each of their 2nd/3rd/4th lines that I think will create scoring chances.

Look for a good amount of chalk to ride with Kuznetsov and Wilson, but the best 1-2-3 line they have is Strome-Oshie-Mantha — or you can throw up in your mouth and play Conor “I suck dog hairs” Sheary + the third line and hope that Backstrom actually passes him the puck even though he sucks dog hairs.

CENTERS

Pairing either McDavid/Drai with Capitals Center value feels like the default route to take tonight.  Both McDavid and Drai are in favorable spots with the Penguins leaky defense of late so trust the $1800 savings on Draisaitl there.

  1. Leon Draisaitl
  2. Mika Zibanejad … He has done very well vs Detroit – who has been playing way above their heads.
  3. Joel Eriksson-Ek
  4. J.T. Miller
  5. Dylan Strome
  6. Boone Jenner

WINGS

Let’s first address the elephant in the room…. The St. Louis Blues are on the slate tonight which means we are using wingers against them until it doesn’t work anymore…

So what do we do here…  Anthony Beauvllier?  Andrei Kuzmenko?  ….  Or Brock Boesser….  You know he’s good.

  1. Nikita Kucherov
  2. The Vancougar’s value, Kuzmenko, Beauvllier and Brock B…
  3. Matt Boldy, Mats Zuccarello
  4. Anthony Mantha, TJ Oshie

… anyone outside of the grouping above needs to have a hatty tonight IMO to warrant using.  Possible options include

  1. Ovechkin obviously
  2. Zach Hyman
  3. Chris Kreider
  4. Jeff Skinner

DEFENSE

  1. Erik Gustafsson
  2. Justin Faulk
  3. Jeff Petry
  4. Mattias Ekholm

Value DEF

  1. Alex Goligoski
  2. Marco Scandella … Hey, it’s his birthday, how about that.  Second game of season and I really like Blues DEF tonight.

VALUE

There’s a million cheap winger options tonight, you probably should have 2+ of them and use a winger in UTIL

  1. Alexander Barabanov
  2. The Capitals Wingers
  3. The Canucks Wingers
  4. Paul Cotter
  5. Michael “Easy Money” Eyssimont

Juuse Saros (Nashville)

Not much else can out weigh the Saros option among the guys below 7500 tonight.  He’s got a ton of upside and not a ton of risk here.

Other Options:

  1. Adin Hill (VGK)

LINE LOCK(S) OF THE NIGHT:

Eriksson Ek – Boldy – Spurgeon (Wild)

FAVORITE ONE OFF STUD FORWARDS:

Nikita Kucherov, Alex Ovechkin

FAVORITE ONE OFF VALUE:

Kuzmenko, Beauvillier, Mantha, Oshie

FAVORITE ONE OFF DEFENSEMAN:

Justin Faulk

BETS:

  • Predators -125
  • Knights -135
  • Wild/Rangers -170 ML Parlay
  • Wild/Blue Jackets over 7

SOG PROPS

  • Joel Eriksson Ek o2.5 (-175)
  • Mika Zibanejad o2.5 (-150) … Generally not taking over props in Red Wings games but this one feels very solid
  • Anthony Beauvillier o2.5 (-105)
  • Justin Faulk o2.5 (-115)
  • Leon Draisaitl o2.5 (-155)
  • Nikita Kucherov o3.5 (-110)

Most Caps lines weren’t posted yet as of earlier today pending Ovechkin’s status, certainly lean the over for the forwards.

Unders …

  • Jack Eichel u3.5 (+135)
  • Taylor Hall u2.5 (+120)
  • Matt Duchene u2.5 (+115)

Good luck.  Just an FYI, no article on Saturday or Sunday this weekend…
