The Dongers Club – April 18th

WEATHER

The wind is blowing out in most stadiums tonight, but none of them are really going to warrant mentioning to make you over think things.  I mean, the one which honestly stands out the most to me is in Coors Field blowing out to RF, but it’s Coors so it’s not like anyone is shocked that it would produce runs.

No PPD issues tonight either, so on with the show.

LOGAN GILBERT

Just write down the floor tonight for Gilbert at 6 IP, 6 K and 1 ER allowed vs the Brewers.  His ceiling however could go much higher depending upon how he does vs Adames and Tellez in the heart of the Milwaukee lineup, if he strikes them out or gets through with a breeze then we’re looking at Gilbert as the #1 SP by far tonight.

MARCUS STROMAN

Stroman is not a pitcher who comes out and puts up 5 or 6 dominant starts in a row as he’ll always have that once every 2-3 weeks start which is just ugly.  But it’s Oakland and it’s a scenario where only the Cubs defense (which is very good) could wind up giving him problems tonight.

NATE EOVALDI

Last week in Texas, the Royals got to Nate for 6 ER on 10 hits, but they also struck out 7 times over 91 pitches from Nate.  Expect a cooler offense for KC today as Melendez/Salvy aren’t doing much at the moment and the Royals don’t hit as well at home in April.  Probably need 100+ pitches from Eovaldi to beat out the guys above — which he doesn’t do enough, but I do think at $7800 he’ll be a good SP2 option on DK.

Other pitching thoughts

  • Ken Waldichuk (6100) is the best value pitching option on DK, I would not touch him on a 1 SP site like FanDuel, but should he get 13-15 DK fpts?  Yes.
  • Spencer Strider is probably a chalky option today, I want no part of him tonight & same is true for Snell
  • Please do not ask me if I am considering Jose Urena, of course I am….

TWINS

Correa, Miranda, Garlick, Vazquez

Sometimes I love picking on Sale, other times I am nervous about it.  Picking on him with a road AL Central team though feels just right and the Twins absolutely mash LHP when they are on.   The hidden gem in this stack tonight would be if we get Tyler Flowers narrative — which is of course the former catcher vs Sale theory that has paid off almost every time we use it.  It’s a theory that I have which is a catcher knows his former pitcher very well and so we hope the Twins do the right thing and start Vasquez (former Red Sox obviously) tonight.

— Confirmed, Vasquez batting 6th!

BLUE JAYS

Springer, Bichette, Guerrero

I’m really not a big Urquidy guy and his reverse splits weakness should be a problem vs this strong RH Jays lineup.  There’s definitely a ball or two going into the Crawford boxes or maybe even Crawford Street itself tonight off the bat of Springer/Bo/Vlad.

This is a better FanDuel stack where you can fit all three in together.

ORIOLES

Mullins, Henderson, Rutschman

A few good starts for Josiah Gray won’t get us off attacking him.  The Orioles lefties lead the way and then they should continue to run the bases well as a team and put up a good 7-8 runs on Washington.

ROCKIES

Profar, McMahon, Bryant

If Vinnie Velasquez throws a gem two starts in a row then I’ll tip my cap to him and move on to Wednesday.

OUTFIELD – Mt. Rushmore

This is the deepest position tonight by far and most of them are all pay up options.  So don’t feel uncomfortable when you have 2+ pay up OF tonight because they should be the players who wind up winning the slate.

  1. Byron Buxton … Boom or bust vs Sale.  It’s either a 5-5 night with two doubles and a homer or a 1-4 night with 2 strikeouts
  2. Cedric Mullins … One of the better HR props tonight to lead off the game vs Gray w/ a homer.  If not, he walks and steals 2nd.
