Wyndham Championship
Wow! We’re almost done he 2022-23 season! That was fast. This is the FINAL tournament before we get to the FedEx Cup Playoffs. This is also the final week with a cut. This will also be the final week that we see some of the familiar names. Justin Thomas is here and, frankly, his chances of making the Top 70 are slim – never thought I’d say that! I mean, maybe. He is 79th and only needs to make up 9 spots, but the way he is playing, ooof!
Now, with that said, I may play him in a lineup because he has some extra incentive this week. Guys in that 60-80 range are going to being bouncing in and out of the Top 70 for, hopefully, four days. There are a lot of guys not here because they are comfortably in and others like JT, Lowry, and Scott who will be fighting to make the playoffs.
Highlights: Sedgefield Country Club
- Par 70 – 7,127 yards
- Narrower Fairways & Smaller than average greens
- Greens are usually fast but pretty easy to hit if you keep it in the fairway
- Rough WILL NOT be high

That’s quite the mix as far as pricing goes. Honestly, I’m not looking to play a lot of the higher-priced guys this week for a couple of reasons. (1) they aren’t big names and (2) they typically aren’t priced this high.

$9,000 and Above
My favorites are:
Course History:
- Sungjae Im ($10,800) –Made all four cuts with three Top 10s.
- Russell Henley ($10,600) – 5 of 6 cuts with last three T5-T7-T9
- Si Woo Kim ($9,000) – other than a WD last year, his previous five appearances were T2-T3-5th-Cut-Win!
Gut/My Favorites:
- Shane Lowry ($9,500) – Currently sits 76th in the FedEx standings and surely wants to play in the Playoffs. Not a bad history here.
- Justin Thomas ($9,100) – I know what I said at the opening, but these are “gut plays” and my gut tells me JT isn’t broken – at least not yet! Making the playoffs will do wonders for him mentally.
- Sam Burns ($10,000) – comfortably in the Playoffs (19th) but needs a good tournament for the sake of going into the Playoffs on a positive note.
- Ludvig Aberg ($9,300) – this guy has a ton of talent and yes, I said that last week.
- T. J. Poston ($9,200) – Probably the best – Hell, definitely the best – current form of anyone in this tier.
$7,500 to $8,900
A balanced lineup is likely not a bad idea this week. I mean, there is no real standout in the upper tier as far as current form other than J.T. Poston and Ludvig Aberg.
- Stephen Jaeger ($8,900)** – Yeah, he’s not JT, but I still don’t understand how he is priced $200 lower than JT other than someone (Cough! Cough! – Bookies!) think JT is coming out of his funk. I’ll start a lot of lineups with the “Jaeger-bomb”!
- Cameron Davis ($8,800)** – Top 25 both times he played here and is coming off a Top 10 and a Top 20 in his last three events.
- Vincent Norrman ($7,800) – Current form play! T50-T25-Win-T24!
- Akshay Bhatia ($7,700) – Interchangeable with Norrman or usable in combination. Last three: Win-T9-T35!
- Billy Horschel ($7,600) – Billy Ho for the win! No, not really, but this price is a good one. Especially for a guy with a great course history here: T27-DNP-2nd-T6-T11-T60-T5!
- Lucas Glover ($7,500) – he disappointed me with a MC last week, but prior to that, he was 5th-T6-T4! If this is what you have left, he’s not a bad play!
$7,000 to $7,400
Yep, we need these guys:
- Garrick Higgo ($7,300)** – Trying to make the playoffs and is on an upward trend. He’s volatile and streaky, but one hell of a lefty.
- Webb Simpson ($7,400)** – Damn! I have mentioned that name in a while. Neither he nor Billy Ho have much of a chance to make the Playoffs, but Webb’s course history can’t be argued with: WD-T7-T3-2nd-T2-3rd-T72-T6-T5-T11. Now, with his current form, can he pay off? I’m not convinced but, many times, fields like this are good for older/forgotten talents like Webb.
- Nicolai Hojgaard ($7,300) – Just can’t quit playing him.
- Doug Ghim ($7,200) – For this price, he’s playing very well. Horrible first round last week but came back, mad the cut, and finished T17.
Under $7,000
“Scrub Zone”… –
- Martin Laird ($6,800) – “Party Marty” at a low price coming off a T2 and T20 in the last two weeks! Sure! Let’s ride the streak if we need this to fill out a lineup.
- Peter Kuest ($6,800) – Good price for a young talent that’s made 6 of 7 cuts!
- C. T. Pan ($6,700) – He’s played well here in the past but current form is questionable.
- Russell Knox ($6,500) – Top 25 here in 2022 & 2021. He’s made six cuts in a row but hasn’t finished better than T33 in that stretch. Still, tell me you wouldn’t pay $6,500 for a guy if we promised you a potential Top 30! Thought so!
LONGSHOT(S)
I have no real feeling that anyone lower-priced guy can win but I reiterate JT as a Longshot again. Oh, Hell, why not?
Chesson Hadley ($7,000)
Two cuts in a row and 5 of his last 6! Plus, he’s been Top 15 here in the last two years!
For the remainder of the season, articles are going to be dependent on time for me. With everyone making the cut, I’ll be willing to take guys at the low-end. Much of my analysis is to try to give you guys that I think will “Make Cuts” so you have 5/6 or 6/6 going into the weekend.
