Showdown Strategy

When Showdown slates first became available I was not a big fan simply because I don’t often like change. When these slates were designed we hadn’t ever seen anything like them in the DFS world. Come to realize a few years later I really enjoy them. On a normal slate with multiple games, I would typically describe myself as a cash game player primarily. That’s where my focus typically lies; cash games/single entry tournaments and from there I’ll build lineups for multi-entry GPP contests. For me, the cash game/single entry strategy kind of goes out the window as I’ll hardly if ever play double-ups and single-entry contests in showdown. Instead, I’ll take a core of players, more than often three to four players in the game that I want in virtually every lineup, typically 20 or so, that I build. The core will usually include both quarterbacks and one to two skill players that I have to have. Like much of fantasy football volume is king but it comes with a price. The wrinkle is the captain’s spot in showdown lineups. The captain’s spot generates 1.5 times the amount of fantasy points scored however a player’s salary goes up in the captain’s spot obviously. Locking in a core and deciding on a captain is how I’ll start building lineups. From there I’ll fill in the rest of the spots with correlation and value plays. Don’t be afraid to get a little weird with these lineups because virtually anything goes!

Core Plays

Green Bay Packers: QB Jordan Love

• Love’s production has been somewhat ugly thus far but at the same time he’s been very fantasy viable. with 20 or mor DK points in three of four games. With the ability to run, Love’s floor is solid in a matchup here especially against a bad defense.

Las Vegas Raiders: RB Josh Jacobs

• Jacobs is the clear bellcow running back here for the Raiders and it’s been a slow start to the season as he started off late but the work has been there especially over the past two weeks with 17 carries in each game and last week he had a season-high eight receptions. This offense runs through Jacobs and the man below.

Captain Plays

WR Davante Adams (LV)

• Adams gets a chance to show out against hi former team in the Packers as he’s seeing a ton of work despite the performance of the team as a whole. Adams has seen nine, eight, 20, and 13 targets over the first four weeks with six, six, 13, and eight receptions in said games. Adams’ floor this season has been a Week 1 effort against the Broncos with six receptions for 66 yards in a game in which he matched up against maybe the best corner in the league (Patrick Surtain II) on 66 percent of his routes run. Look for a high volume game from Adams.

Flex Plays

Las Vegas Raiders: WR Jakobi Meyers

• Meyers was quiet last week (four targets, two receptions, 33 yards) but is a good weapon for the Raiders with double-digit targets in two of three games played (he missed Week 3 with a concussion).

Player to Fade

Green Bay Packers: WR Christian Watson

• It’s clear that Love and Romeo Doubs have built a great repore while Watson has been working to get healthy. I don’t believe that the Love-Doubs connection goes away anytime soon considering how efficient the two have been. If there’s someone to fade for me here amongst the standouts it’s Watson.
