The CJ Cup Byron Nelson
This used to be the AT & T Byron Nelson. However, this will be the fourth year this event – by this name – is played at TPC Craig Ranch. After a week off, hopefully we can get some winners this week. I dabbled last week with the team event but, as I expected, predicting scoring was damn near impossible.
Highlights: TPC Craig Ranch
- Par 71 – 7,414 yards
- Zoysia fairways (I want this for my yard but my wife is a “Hell No!”)
- Bentgrass greens
- Rowlett Creek meanders through the course and crosses the playing area 15 times or so. So, water will come into play.
Not a spectacular field this week. Jordan Spieth is the highest priced guy and there are only three guys above $10K. Of the three, Will Zalatoris is probably playing the best, but even he missed the cut last week in the team event. I don’t think Spieth is playing well enough to deserve a five-figure salary, but he does tend to play well in Texas. The other, Jason Day, won here last year.
NOTE: All pricing is based on DraftKings
$10,000 and Above (in my order of preference)
- Will Zalatoris ($10,000)
- Jason Day ($10,400)
- Jordan Spieth ($10,900)
$9,000 to $9,900
- Si Woo Kim ($9,800) – four Top 20s in his last five events
- Alexander Noren ($9,500) – didn’t play last year but T12 & T21 in 2022 & 2021 respectively. Also, recent form? T23-T14-T11-T19-T9!
- Tom Hoge ($9,100)
- Tom Kim ($9,000) – think he may be back in form
$8,000 to $8,900
- Mark Hubbard ($8,100)**- he’s really playing well and is under the radar. Hasn’t missed a cut this year.
- Thomas Detry ($8,700)
- Keith Mitchell ($8,800)
- K. H. Lee ($8,300) – I’m not putting him here because I love him. He’s still volatile and misses cuts more frequently than I’d like, but he won this even in 2022 and 2021. That has to be a consideration.
$7,000 to $7,900
- Seamus Power ($7,900)
- Davis Thompson ($7,900)
- Peter Kuest ($7,500) – started the season rather weakly on the Korn Ferry Tour but has two straight Top 10s on the PGA Tour and was T14 here last year.
- Justin Lower ($7,500)
- C. T. Pan ($7,300) – 4th last year and, since mid-February, doesn’t miss cuts. 6 straight.
Under $7,000
- Chandler Phillips ($6,900)
- Brice Garnett ($6,800)
- Nico Echavarria ($6,500)
- Callum Tarren ($6,300)
Longshot(s)
- Daniel Berger ($7,400) – I know he’s been injured and hasn’t returned to his form of the past, but $7,400 for his potential is just crazy. He last played here in 2021 and finished T3.
