CFB DFS: The Tailgate – Week 1 (Sat)

Now we’re talking with a good sized main slate and then a couple extra tilt slates in the afternoon (3:30) and evening (7:00) for the DFS glory as Week 1 gets officially going.

OHIO vs SYRACUSE – Over/Under 46.5

Syracuse welcomes in a new QB, the trash of Kyle McCord — but the real pairing here is getting LeQuint Allen for $5100 and Oronde Gadsen for $3500 on the Syracuse offense.  Both are near CORE plays at those prices.  Run it back with one of the Ohio WR (Hendricks, Harris, Owen)

PENN STATE vs WEST VIRGINIA – Over/Under 51.5

When it comes to Game stacks I prefer to find one with two QB that I trust to keep the scoring up.  I trust Greene more in DFS purposes than Drew Allar, but Allar’s gonna throw 2 TD today in what I FIRMLY believe is going to be a sneaky shootout

HIGH SPREAD TEAM STACKS

In terms of offensively powered teams who projected to run away with it today you have just Texas (-32), and Ohio State (-48.5).  Both of which are at home and neither of which are what I would consider have to stack or have to fade.

They’re both kinda in the middle with the Texas backfield looking mighty advisable between Jaydon Blue ($6200) and Quintrevion Wisner ($4500).

The Buckeyes, however, are far more likely to be sitting in the start of the 4th Quarter with a 60+ burger already on the board as they should have a great offensive year, and are the better “3 man” full stack spot.  If you can get a Will Howard rushing touchdown then he’s gonna be more than fine, but you gotta think they spread the field with their WR and display Freshman Jeremiah Smith early and often.  Smith and Carnell Tate are better WR picks than Emeka given that they can get them some favorable matchups now to build confidence and trust.

  • OHIO STATE (Will Howard, Quinshon Judkins, Jeremiah Smith/Carnell Tate)

A really good QB slate with Drones and Greene being two guys who should do well with rushing yards.  Drones and the Hokies get a better rush advantage in their matchup but I would be shocked if Greene played poorly in the game of the day.  There’s a ton of depth at QB here with other honorable mention names including Quinn Ewers saying “screw that backup”, Alan Bowman saying “Yep, I’m still here bitches” and yes, even Graham Mertz.

  1. Garrett Greene – WVU – $8100 … I expect Greene to account for well over 60% of the WVU offense on Saturday.
  2. Will Howard – Ohio State – $8500 … Has to rush one in.  Has too.  But he should have 4 passing TD too.
  3. Kyron Drones – VT – $8300 … Chalky QB, not bad to pair with a WR or fade with just his WR for leverage.

BEST VALUE QB:

Eli Holstein (Pittsburgh)

This is a three headed monster and everything beyond these guys is not only rolling the dice but also contrarian today.

  1. Ollie Gordon II – Oklahoma Sate – $9100 … I kinda expected Gordon to not even make 9k knowing how DraftKings is soft on pricing early
  2. LeQuint Allen – Syracuse – $5100 … A new coaching staff in Syracuse is probably the only way Allen doesn’t see 20 carries and for this price at home that’s just an automatic system play
  3. Jaydon Blue – Texas – $6200

FAVORITE CONTRARIAN PLAY

Quinshon Judkins – Ohio State … Judkins is just too good not to outshine TreVeyon Henderson at times this year in the Ohio State backfield & could get shot out of a cannon in Week 1 with receiving TD potential too.

It’s contrarian WR week.  The type of slate I generally LOVE, because you always have the most leverage at WR where you can find someone usually at lower ownership simply because of game totals and how volatile projections are on WR’s.  That said, I’m starting with this trio.

  1. Tory Horton – Colorado State – $6900 … Horton is our chalky guy that probably shouldn’t be this chalky considering the opponent.  But his volume and Colorado State’s likely path to continue to ride him is going to equate to him really needing just one “big” play and he’s near a must own
  2. Jeremiah Smith – Ohio State – $5400 … I wouldn’t be shocked if Carnell Tate winds up scoring for Ohio State and he is just $500 more.  So you got two mid range options here who both could have double digit days very early and maybe a second TD to really pay off.
  3. Tai Felton – Maryland – $4800 … Sneaky game of the day?  UCONN vs MARYLAND my friends.  Felton had 48 catches a year ago with 5-140-1 in the final game he played last year.  Another star from Stone Bridge HS in Northern VA should be the top WR option for the Terps as they transition QB’s to start the season.

CONTRARIAN SLEEPERS

  1. Jaylin Lane – VT – $5800 … Everyone is gonna want to play the rushing upside of QB Kyron Drones for the Hokies, but lets not act like Vanderbilt has ever stopped a talented WR.  Ever.  Best way to fade Drones?  Play his WR.

RANDOM ONE OFF

  1. Coleman Owen – Ohio – $5500 … As a sub 6 foot White Guy born in Arizona and after attending Northern Arizona for five years, your only move is … to transfer to Ohio for Graduate School for your MBA.  Mother fucker is gonna be running some Fortune 500 company in about 25 years and surely is smarter than any kid on the Syracuse defensive side.  He’s gonna carve them up for 8-10 catches, although the ‘Cuse secondary does project to be a strength this year.  They wont know whats coming with a guy named Coleman and Owen going into the Carrier Dome.  It’s destiny…  And if you don’t get that reference, then c’mon.

BEST VALUE OPTIONS

  1. Oronde Gadsen – Syracuse – $3500 … This is near a CORE play to allow you to use 2 pay up QB’s – which is a smart move this week
