The Sentry Tournament of Champions
Just like that annoying neighbor that leaves for Florida in the winter months…I’m baaack!!
Let’s hope this is a year where we (or at least I) don’t spend my PGA DFS life hovering around the money line. Much like the new administration, I’m hoping that most of my contest placements lean further and further right on the DK and FD App pages. That little bubble sliding further to the left is quite annoying.
Kapalua’s Plantation Course is a “resort course”. It appears to be long at over 7,500 yards, but it really doesn’t play that way. By “resort course” they mean that it has to be forgiving enough not to frustrate the guests – players like most of us – to the point that they don’t want to come back. So, we have wide fairways and large greens. In other words, -20 or better is expected. There is a lot of elevation change which makes the course play shorter than the listed yardage as well. It’s also a Par 73 and only has three Par 3s.

This is a limited field tournament since it’s made up of the winners from the 2022-23 season. Therefore, everyone will get four rounds unless they withdraw. EXPECT LOW SCORES TO PAR – AND HIGH DFS SCORING!!
We won’t see Lock-and-Load Scheffler this week because he decided to get some freak injury to his hand over the Holidays! It will probably be late January or early February – maybe Waste Management – before we see him.

$9,000 and Above
- Collin Morikawa ($10,100)** – T5-2nd-T5-T7-T7 at Kapalua! Hasn’t played in a months, but he seems to really enjoy this course. Then again, most haven’t played in a while.
- Xander Schauffele ($11,000) – Course history is awesome! My gut? I may avoid him simply because of price and I don’t think I lose much with the other $9K guys.
- Justin Thomas ($9,700)** – Oh, the struggles of JT in the last couple of years. I think the struggle was real, but the struggle is over! I think we may be back to the JT who went T5-3rd-Win-3rd-T22-Win here from 2022 to 2017 respectively.
- Patrick Cantlay ($9,900) – He plays well here too. He is just my “solid” play every week. He may not kill it, but he will usually never hurt you either.
- Ludvig Aberg ($9,800) – This is my pick for breakout player of the year! Only T47 here in his only attempt but I really love his game, his attitude and his demeanor.
- You can truly play anyone this week give that it is NO-CUT!!
$8,000 to $9,000
- Sahith Theegala ($8,600)** – He has played in the last month. T11 and 8th! And, wow! He was $7,600 here last year.
- Akshay Bhatia ($8,900)**- T14 here last year!
OK – I’m done “buying vowels”! Oh, relax! I’m kidding! Although I don’t think I offend many of you that read my articles!
- Corey Conners ($8,700)** – Much like Cantlay above, Conners is my “rock pick” in this tier as long as the algos keep putting him under $9K!
- Max Greyserman ($8,000) – relatively new to the Tour, he is a damn good player. Now, he won last year – which is why he’s here but I don’t think that was a one-and-done occurrence. He’ll win this year…maybe more than once!
- Robert Macintyre ($8,200) – A really good player that, typically, goes under the radar in events. Much like Ian Poulter of years past, he’s a scrapper and I usually have no issues playing him.
$7,000 to $7,900
- Jason Day ($7,600)** – I doubt he ever returns to the J-Day of a few years ago, but you can’t let a player of this caliber – priced in the $7K range – stay on your DFS bench.
- Alex Noren ($7,400)** – Finished the year in solid form. Played twice on the World Tour since the Tour Championship and finished T12 and T30.
- Brian Harman ($7,400) – In a cut event, I’m all over him at this price! No-cut? Still like him, but prefer Noren at this price.
- Matthew Fitzpatrick ($7,200)** – coming off a less-than-successful year. Much like J-Day, he’s solid at this course and the price does not reflect the talent level.
- Max Homa ($7,100) – YOU WILL NOT SEE HIM AT THIS PRICE AGAIN THIS YEAR!!!
Under $7,000
- Will Zalatoris ($6,900)** – I’m hoping he’s finally back from the back! Ba-dum-ba! All kidding aside, the talent is immense if the body can hold up. PREDICTION: This will be the lowest price you see him this year!
- Eric Cole ($6,900)**
- Thomas Detry ($6,700)

Billy Horschel ($7,200) – I think you see him on the first or second page of the leader board this week….but, probably not again this year!
