Mexico Open at VidantaWorld
So, California is done! We are also going from a couple of strong fields to BLAH! I’m going light this week for a couple of reasons. (1) the field sucks and (2) I haven’t been having much luck with my placing moving to the “right” on the DK or FD apps.
We go from a solid field to what has the feel of a mid-season AA MLB game this week.
Highlights:
Vidanta Vallarta – Par 71, 7456 yards
Wide fairways and shortish rough – cue the Bombers!
Paspalum grass on the greens and not very fast.
Historically, winning scores are low!
Not going to be too much commentary with the picks this week. The snoozer of a field doesn’t deserve that much. I mean, literally, it comes down to either (1) the guy is in good form or (2) has historically played well at Vindata.

$10,000 and Above
- Akshay Bhatia ($10,700) – He’s the obvious pick this week and with pricing starting under $11K this week, it’s probably best to stay with the obvious in a shitty field!
- Rasmus Hojgaard ($10,100) – Last year, his twin brother (Nicolai) was $10,700. This year, Rasmus is the top dog. He is playing well other than he played like a complete stinky pile of dog shit last week. He was playing great before the South Course castrated him. I’ll probably go back on the hopes last week was an anomaly.
- Kurt Kitayama ($10,200) – Not sure why he’s here either other than the field. He has a T2 here in 2022 and really isn’t playing that well. He’s made 3 of 4 cuts but hasn’t broken the Top 30 yet. Yeah, that won’t even touch value at this price.
That’s it! Three guys! Honestly, I’m fine with skipping over all of them and starting in the $9K range. At least some of those guys have good course history.
$9,000 to $9,900
- Patrick Rodgers ($9,500)** – Sunday wasn’t his best round at Genesis but he still finished T3. That recent play combined with a T6-T10-10th history at Vidanta makes him a favorite for me in this group.
- Michael Kim ($9,200)** – he’s picked it up the last two weeks.
- Taylor Moore ($9,000)
- Stephan Jaeger ($9,600) – T3, T18 and T15 here in the last three years.
- Harry Hall ($9,300)
$8,000 to $8,900
- Jake Knapp ($8,600)** – Late entry last week and finished T17 on a tough course. Look for him to follow up this week as the defending champion.
- Nicolai Hojgaard ($8,100)** – I may put both brothers in a lineup and hope for a Family Feud on the weekend.
- Kevin Yu ($8,800)
- Greyson Sigg ($8,000) – course history play
$7,000 to $7,900
- Erik van Rooyen ($7,500)**
- Carson Young ($7,700)
- Sam Ryder ($7,400)
- Ryan Gerard ($7,600)
- Frankie Capan ($7,100)
Under $7,000
- Joel Dahmen ($6,900)
- Will Gordon ($6,900)
- Nothing else is really giving me a good feeling. Some will hit, but I’m done!

- Emiliano Grillo ($7,000) – He doesn’t play bad here! Remember, right courses get players right!
