Texas Children’s Houston Open
We have a couple of weeks before The Masters so fields will be suspect. However, this week surprised me a little. While not fantastic, we do have several quality players this week – including Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
This week is going to be brief. Picks and only picks. I’ve got travel sports coming out my ass with my kids, taxes due, and a daughter in high school track to top it off. So, my apologies, but you all don’t really pay much attention to the other shit anyway!
Highlights: Memorial Park Golf Course
- Par 70 – 7,435 yards
- Three Par 5s and Five Par 3s
- Fairways are wide and forgiving
- Greens are small (Bermuda over seeded with POA) – Speedy and wind can make it worse for play later in the day.
- Biggest equalizer? WIND!!! It’s Texas
- This is one of the nicest municipal courses in the country (which means we all can play it at a reasonable price) but it was renovated in 2020 to make it more difficult which is why the PGA is likely here.
Only four years of recent course history. The other years were 60 years ago and far from relevant for DFS purposes. Playing Texas courses is an acquired skill with the wind. Guys that typically play well in Texas (or in wind) should get a boost this week.

Remarkably, there are only two guys priced over $10K this week. Both are in play, but you probably don’t want to play both in the same lineup. Let me rephrase that. Playing both in the same lineup leaves you $6,400 for the remaining four golfers. I’m sure tons of people would love to challenge you in a head-to-head matchup if you do that.
Frankly, Rory is playing better than Scottie right now, but Scotte is from Texas and loves his home state courses. Rory, being from Ireland, also isn’t afraid of the Texas wind. I’d lean Scottie just because of course history – T2-T9-T2-T32!

- Mackenzie Hughes ($7,500) – Course History: T14-T16-T29-T7…At this price? Hell yes!

- Jeremy Paul ($7,000) – a little unknown but made 3 of last 4 cuts and all are Top 25.
Under $7,000
- Antoine Rozner ($6,700)
- Steven Fisk ($6,900)
- Ryan Fox ($6,900)
- Sami Valimaki ($6,600) – he is making cuts. At this price, it’s enough.
Longshot(s)
- Victor Perez ($7,100) – Back-to-Back Top 25s and T17 here last year.
