The CJ Cup Byron Nelson
Alright, back to the regular grind. I’m still swamped with my kids playing multiple travel sports, but I will at least try to keep up here. I dabbled last week with the Team event but, as I expected, predicting scoring was damn near impossible.
Highlights: TPC Craig Ranch
- Par 71 – 7,414 yards
- Zoysia fairways (I want this for my yard but my wife is a “Hell No!”)
- Bentgrass greens
- Rowlett Creek meanders through the course and crosses the playing area 15 times or so. So, water will come into play.
It’s a decent field this week. There are only three guys above $10K…but, Scottie is $13,300! What the Hell are they thinking? I mean yeah, Scottie is the huge favorite according to the odds, but wow, that really limits you. I did it, but other than Sami Valimaki who’s playing lights out right now, the balance of my lineup is, well, meh! I mean, my highest-priced guy after that is $7,500. I did use it in a $33 single entry. That may be a stupid play but…
NOTE: All pricing is based on DraftKings
$10,000 and Above (in my order of preference)
- Scottie Scheffler ($13,300) – the price is ridiculous but he’s still the favorite!
- Jordan Spieth ($10,500) – the Texas link and current form.
- Sungjae Im ($10,000)- solid play but plenty of guys below him are playing just as well
$9,000 to $9,900
- Stephan Jaeger ($9,300)
- Mackenzie Hughes ($9,100) – good putter and is coming off two Top 10s
- Ben Griffin ($9,200) – coming off a win in the Team thing last week and played well. Also, T13 here last year.
- Ben An ($9,700) – playing consistently but nothing spectacular. However, T4 and T14 in the last two years at Craig Ranch.
$8,000 to $8,900
- Ryan Gerard ($8,600) – missed the cut here in 2023 but he’s 8 of 9 cuts so far this year
- Ryo Hisatsune ($8,300) – oh where is Tommy G. and his years of screaming “you gotta play the Asians!” I still see him on X occasionally.
- Jake Knapp ($8,400)
- Will Zalatoris ($8,800) – not my favorite play from a confidence standpoint but I just have to believe this guy makes it to the top at some point.
$7,000 to $7,900
- Sami Vaimaki ($7,300) – this guy is fire right now. Yeah, he missed the cut in the Team event last week, but I blame that on his partner in the alternate shot round. Three Top 20s in a row prior to that.
- Gary Woodland ($7,400)
- Isaiah Salinda ($7,500)
- Alejandro Tosti ($7,300)
- Matt Kuchar ($7,300) – I just can’t rule him out in Texas.
Under $7,000
- Dylan Wu ($6,700)
- Joseph Bramlett ($6,700) – typically plays well here.
- Emiliano Grillo ($6,800) – another forgotten name but has made 7 of 8 cuts this year – including five in a row!
- William Mouw ($6,500)
- Antoine Rozner (6,800) – HAS NOT MISSED A CUT SINCE MID-JANUARY!!
Longshot(s)
- Harry Hall ($8,000) – Just think this sets up well for him.

GOOD LUCK!!
