Charles Schwab Challenge
“Lock and Load” is back! It’s inevitable, barring an injury or mental breakdown, that Scheffler will be the favorite in any tournament he’s in. Majors? Yeah, no worries there either. He could win the U. S. Open and The Open (British Open) in the next two months and have the career Grand Slam before Jordan and substantially faster than Rory.
This week, we are moving to Texas. Colonial Country Club is a historic course, but it was renovated and restored following the 2023 tournament so it may be a little difficult to anticipate some results. Not a great field but “Lock and Load” isn’t taking a week off.
Highlights: Colonial Country Club
- Par 70 – 7,289 yards
- Bentgrass Greens (fast)
- Narrow Fairways
- Somewhat difficult rough and tree-lined fairways
- 6 holes have water in play
NOTE: All pricing is based on DraftKings
$10,000 and Above
- Scottie Scheffler ($13,700) – Hey DraftKings! Kiss my ass! We all know what you’re doing. You’re making it as difficult as possible to get a good lineup with him in it. Two guys $10K and above and a $3,700 difference between them? Bite me! Here’s the thing. We can’t ignore him but, if he doesn’t win (or at least Top 5), it may be too much to spend. Personally, if I have him in a lineup, it will only be one on DK. FanDuel is a little better but there is still $1,400 between him and Spieth.
- Tommy Fleetwood ($10,000) – Nothing great in past tournaments here, but this course requires everything in your game except the ability to bomb it off the tee. Tommy is that guy so I wouldn’t hesitate to start here.
$9,000 to $9,900 (Ranking all the guys in my order of preference)
- Daniel Berger ($9,900)
- J. T. Poston ($9,400)
- Harris English ($9,200)
- Jordan Spieth ($9,800) – because it’s Texas and he has 7 Top 10s (including a win) here and one MC in the last 10 years. Damn! He’s been around that long?
- Aaron Rai ($9,100) – I may like him a little more than Spieth except for the course history.
- Maverick McNealy ($9,500)
- Keith Mitchell ($9,000) – on fire prior to the PGA.
- Hideki Matsuyama ($9,600) – Just not feeling the “Hideki Love” lately. He’s been a little more inconsistent than I like.
- Robert Macintyre ($9,300) – definitely the dark horse in this Tier – in my opinion
$8,000 to $8,900
- Davis Riley ($8,600) – winner here last year and has only missed one cut in the last three months.
- Harry Hall ($8,000) – this is a decent price for guy that’s coming off back-to-back Top 20s. Now, he finished 3rd here and MC last year with the new redesign. So, what!? I like his form.
- Si Woo Kim ($8,900) – maybe, just maybe, a little too high of a price. But, his recent form is T8-T17-T15-MC-T8.
- Brian Harman ($8,500) – a little bit of a course horse making 9 of 10 cuts here since 2015 with seven Top 25s.
- Lucas Glover ($8,100) – historic course with a guy that’s been around for a while. Three Top 25s in his last four events here – including a T12 on the new design last year.
$7,000 to $7,900
- Christiaan Bezuidenhout ($7,500) – coming off a mediocre performance at the PGA, he seems to love Colonial. T17-T21-T15 in the last three years.
- Tom Hoge ($7,400) – he’s an under-the-radar type of guy. Plays well but doesn’t win a lot. At this price, a win is a bonus. MC last week but playing fantastic prior to that.
- Ryan Gerard ($7,900) – He’s earned this price tag even though it is below $8K. He’s the guy that is usually priced lower than this and no one pays attention to him. Pay attention!
- Emiliano Grillo ($7,400) – Great course history!
- Rickie Fowler ($7,300) – a little unexciting lately but this is a good price for a guy that could turn it on at any time.
- Sam Stevens ($7,500) – like the way he’s playing right now.
Under $7,000
- Michael Thorbjornsen ($7,000) – yeah, I know, could have included above.
- Sami Valimaki ($6,900) – slight hiccup last week but still solid.
- Matt Kuchar ($6,800) – the epitome of a guy who stays in control! At this price, a made cut pays off!
- Erik van Rooyen ($6,700)
- Beau Hossler ($6,700) – T19 last week on a tough course. This week? Tough course!
- Carson Young ($6,500)
Longshot(s)
- Danny Walker ($6,400) – Unknown but T34-T25-T12-T31 in his last four events.
- Mac Meissner ($6,800) – T5 here last year.
- Taylor Dickson ($6,100) – definition of a Longshot! Made 5 of last 6 cuts!
