Get ready for another birdie-fest this week. This will not be the “elite field” we’ve been seeing the last few weeks. The winning score here has been over 20 under par for four of the six years we’ve been at the Detroit Golf Club. Again, this week, I’m going light for two reasons:
- I haven’t been having much luck and just want a break – that’s also why this will be a very lazy article. (Hopefully, you saw my Xander Schauffele bitch! At least I didn’t curse).
- When everyone is scoring this low, it’s damn near impossible to differentiate. On harder courses, you can eliminate some of the field barring a “career week” from a guy playing poorly. On courses like this? These guys ARE ALL THAT GOOD!

- Not extremely fast (POA and Bentgrass mix)

Yes, I listed them in order. No, I don’t necessarily think that’s the way you should look at it. No, I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary to have any of them. Current Form – Keegan; Course History – Keegan’s played more but Collin & Patrick have T2s.
These are the weeks when someone could very well hit the winner’s circle for the first time. Another reason I go light.

- Ben Griffin ($9,800) – he’s my favorite this week!
- Cameron Young ($9,300)
- Harry Hall ($9,500)
$8,000 to $8,900
- Matthew Fitzpatrick ($8,400) – Too good of a player for this price. He’s struggled a bit this year but five straight made cuts with a Top 10 and three Top 25s makes me like this price even more.
- Akshay Bhatia ($8,200)
- Wyndham Clark ($8,600) – I don’t approve of the alleged damage in the Oakmont locker room but maybe that got him out of his head and back to playing golf.
- Rickie Fowler ($8,700) – previous winner here so if the right Rickie shows up this week, this could be a decent price.
$7,000 to $7,900
- Chris Kirk ($7,500) – course history play
- Taylor Moore ($7,600) – course history play
- Cameron Davis ($7,400) – two-time winner of this event in the six years it’s been played here. His current form isn’t the greatest but those of you that follow me know the saying “sometimes the right courses make your game right!”
- Victor Perez ($7,400) – like his recent play
- Emiliano Grillo ($7,400) – the forgotten player that used to compete for wins. Four straight Top 25s gives me hope.
- Ryo Hisatsune ($7,200)
Under $7,000 (Or exactly $7,000 that I didn’t put above)
- Antoine Rozner ($7,000)
- Austin Eckroat ($7,000)
- Cameron Champ ($7,000)
- Adam Hadwin ($6,800) – he is far from his best form but making cuts. This price? Just make cuts!
- Matt Kuchar ($6,900) – Hadwin with better form and a substantially better comfort level for me.
Longshot(s)
- Carson Young ($6,700) – Yeah, not Cameron, but at one point in the last 12 months, he was playing better!
