PGA Dew Sweeper: Travelers Championship

Travelers Championship

J.J. Spaun for the win!  No way I could have called that, and it not been a pure guess.  Still, it was a lot of fun to watch – not so much probably to play that beast of a course.  A 300-yard par 3?  I can’t get my driver there at 57 years old.  Hell, I’m not sure my 30-year-old ass could have gotten it there without some roll!

Onward and upward until we get to The Open.  It’s an Elevated Event with NO CUT and a course that will play wo much easier than Oakmont.  This is a week to go light and take some chances because, barring a WD, everyone gets four rounds.

On to Cromwell, CT.

Highlights:  TPC River Highlands

  • Par 70 – 6,835 yards
  • Small Greens (some of the smallest on Tour at 5,000 sf average)
  • Wide fairways that, unlike most places, get wider the further you hit it.  Cue THE BOMBERS!!
  • Water (in play on five holes) and plenty of bunkers (almost 70).

NOTE:  All pricing is based on DraftKings

$10,000 and Above (in my order of preference)

  • Scottie Scheffler ($13,300) – don’t worry about last week.  He’ll be fine.  If he isn’t, you still get 4 rounds.  It will just suck if he isn’t Top 10 at this price.
  • Xander Schauffele ($10,800)
  • Rory McIlroy ($11,500) – didn’t play last year but has a history of Top 20s even before it was and Elevated Event.
  • Collin Morikawa ($10,200)

$9,000 to $9,900 (Ranking all the guys in my order of preference)

  • Sam Burns ($9,100) – I am among the group that didn’t like the ruling he got after the heavy rains, but you need to just let it go.  Hopefully, his form continues.
  • Viktor Hovland ($9,000) – Still not sure he’s back but he played better than the rest of this tier last week.
  • Ludvig Aberg ($9,600)
  • Justin Thomas ($9,300)
  • Patrick Cantlay ($9,800) – him missing the cut and Sam not winning probably cut my winnings in half last week.
  • Sepp Straka ($9,200) – he’s a little up and down lately but, if you believe in patterns, he’s up this week!

$8,000 to $8,900

  • Russell Henley ($8,800)
  • Ben Griffin ($8,100)
  • Tommy Fleetwood ($8,900)
  • Keegan Bradley ($8,500)
  • Shane Lowry ($8,300) – I look for a big rebound.

I’m not ignoring J. J. Spaun ($8,600), but this week is going to be hard for him coming off the emotional roller coaster and his first Major.  He’ll be pulled in multiple directions and, if I were him, this week would simply be a relaxing four rounds of golf knowing I get to cash a check regardless.  That could actually benefit him but I’m not anticipating that.

$7,000 to $7,900

  • Cameron Young ($7,800)
  • Maverick McNealy ($7,600)
  • Adam Scott ($7,600)
  • Brian Harman ($7,200) – COURSE HORSE!!! (T9-T2-T8-T5-MC-T8-T6-T35-MC-3rd)
  • Ryan Fox ($7,000)
  • Jason Day ($7,000)

Under $7,000

  • Thomas Detry ($6,800)
  • Nick Taylor ($6,900)
  • Andrew Novak ($6,700)
  • Sam Stevens ($6,600)
  • Christiaan Bezuidenhout ($6,600)

Longshot(s)

  • None

Really, no one is out of play this week.  This is a week to go light and take some chances.

Ask questions on Discord if you have them.  Make sure to tag me so I don’t miss it!

GOOD LUCK!!
