Genesis Scottish Open
I believe we are done with the birdie-fests…at least for a few weeks. This week, look for winning scores around half of what they have been. Someone may hit mid-teens below par, but not half the field. This is also the prelude to The Open next week so this should be fun!
Top 65 and ties make the cut!
Highlights: The Renaissance Club
- Par 70 – 7,237 yards
- Links-style course (mounds, deep bunkers, and “gorse” [tall rough])
- Fescue Greens (Closest to Bentgrass)
- As with all Scottish/British courses – Weather is the wild card!

$10,000 and Above (in my order of preference)
- Scottie Scheffler ($13,100) – old “Lock-and-Load” made the trip this year after skipping in 2024. I’m ranking him as the favorite even though the price tag bothers me. I did a lineup with him and, meh, it works. I’m just not sure Hao-Ton Li, Francesco Laporta, and Antoine Rozner give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
- Rory McIlroy ($11,400) – home field advantage (home region at least) and he won two years ago. T4 last year. Rory has faltered a little bit at the Canadian Open (yeah, it was ugly), recovered a little at the U. S. Open (the T19 wasn’t that impressive), and looked more like Rory at the Travelers. $1,700 less will help with your lineup build if you really want one of the top tier guys.
- Xander Schauffele ($10,100) – Nothing to write home about with his play either. It’s OK, but when you pay over $10K you really expect a Top 15 at least. Not really feeling it here.
$9,000 to $9,900
- Tommy Fleetwood ($9,900) – He may be the Chicago Cubs of the PGA! Still, he has played well here in the past. If you’re not going with one of the $10K guys, this isn’t a bad place to start. Yes, he could win and break the curse. Plus, side though is, even though it’s a PGA event, it isn’t in the continental U. S. so…who knows?
- Robert Macintyre ($9,100) – I’m not having that gut feeling that he is the play, but you can’t ignore a Win and a 2nd place finish in the last two years.
- Sam Burns ($9,000) – THIS IS MY FAVORITE PLAY!! And he’s at the bottom of the Tier as far as pricing. He’s been Top 20 in 7 of his last 8 events!
- Ludvig Aberg ($9,400) – I still love this guy’s game even though his finishes haven’t been what I’ve wanted. I have a gut feeling that he finds it this week and is on the first page of the leader board by Sunday.
Look, there are other big names here – JT, Collin, and Viktor. I’m just not there. Viktor’s game appears to be back but he’s coming off a withdrawal. JT? The consistency hasn’t been there since he won. He’s alternating Missed Cuts with Top 10s (two). If you believe in patterns, this one should be a Missed Cut. Collin is the one that I could substitute for Ludvig or Macintyre but I’m leaning to what I stated.
$8,000 to $8,900
- Ryan Fox ($8,500) – Let’s talk consistent play and a great price! T17-T19-Win-T20-T28-Win in his last six events.
- Harry Hall ($8,400) – sounds like the name of a college dorm at Monster University but plays like he belongs! Last six events: T13-T9-T24-T6-T19-T20!
- Matthew Fitzpatrick ($8,800) – I think he’s righted the ship and he’s playing where his roots are…or very close to it.
- J. J. Spaun ($8,100) – Fresh off the U. S. Open win. He has the patience for this type of golf.
- Wyndham Clark ($8,200) – course history play. T10-T25-T16 at a good price.
$7,000 to $7,900
- Max Greyserman ($7,800) – T21 here last year and he hasn’t missed a cut since early March.
- Denny McCarthy ($7,200) – yet to miss a cut this year! 17 for 17! That’s impressive even if he somehow misses it this week. Missed the cut here last year but I doubt he was playing as well as he is right now.
- Brian Harman ($7,500) – just too good of a player to be priced this low. He’s flown under the radar this year because he hasn’t had any really high finishes until an 8th a few weeks ago at Travelers. Having won The Open in 2023, we know he can play this style of golf.
- Nick Taylor ($7,600) – the Canadian has been extremely trustworthy. Four straight Top 25s (including a 4th place finish) after a missed cut. He’s in prime shape.
- Jake Knapp ($7,200) – new name for this tournament but I think he has the game for links golf.
- Hao Tong Li ($7,100) – mentioned above in my “Lock and Load” lineup! I said it in gest, but this guy can play. 14 for 14 in cuts made this season on the World Tour. Look, just because we’ve never heard of him on the PGA Tour doesn’t mean he can’t play.
- Victor Perez ($7,200) – showed up on the PGA Tour events a couple of weeks ago and came out and shot 10-under and 4-under. Nice! Yeah, he picked the birdie fests and, for his troubles, missed a cut and finished T51. T10 here last year. I LOVE the price!
- Jordan L. Smith ($7,300) – I have never gotten this guy right! Even when I dabble in contests on the DP World Tour. But, he has three Top 5s this year and is coming off a 2nd place finish. I’ll try again!
Under $7,000
- Antoine Rozner ($6,800)
- Francesco Laporta ($6,800)
- Jhonattan Vegas ($6,800) – it’s a crap shoot but, when he plays well, he is in the mix and usually not at the cut line. MC or Top 25!
- Kristoffer Reitan ($6,900) – gut feeling here but, in the last 12 weeks, he is T4-T46-DNP-DNP-T13-T2-Win-DNP-T33-DNP-T2-T69!
- Brian Campbell ($6,500) – riding the hot hand off the win last week.
Longshot(s)
- Lee Hodges ($7,100) – I like his current game!
- Tom Kim ($7,600) – his current game is, well, shit! However, in three tries here, his worst finish is T15. Course to make the game right? Not a bad price if you need a wild card!
- Francesco Laporta ($6,800) – If I’m playing them, it’s either a plug or I think they could be there on the weekend. Given that his worst finish since a missed cut in early May is T27, I’m okay with taking him at this price.
- Marco Penge ($7,000) – I know little or nothing about him. He has win and three straight Top 25s
