John Deere Classic
Of course, we have another shitty field! It’s because it’s only a couple of weeks away from Major #4 – The Open! I do like that tournament, and I will make every effort to right the ship for myself – and you all – by then. This week is another birdie-fest on an easy course. Because of that, I usually go light and hope for the best.
Highlights: TPC Deere Run
- Par 71 – 7,289 yards
- Short rough
- Bentgrass greens, fairly large and easy to hit
- Three water hazards

- Ben Griffin ($10,400) – not a whole lot of guys hotter than him right now…especially anyone playing this week
- Jason Day ($10,500) – I like Jason, but this price is too high considering guys in the $8K range will probably fair just as well.
- J. T. Poston ($10,100)

- Denny McCarthy ($9,900)
- Davis Thompson ($9,600) – missed a few cuts lately but has been Top 25 and a win in his only two trips here.
- Jake Knapp ($9,400) – expecting a continuation of last week with a similar course
- Michael Thorbjornsen ($9,100)
$8,000 to $8,900
- Luke Clanton ($8,700)
- Pierceson Coody ($8,400)
- Bud Cauley ($8,600)
- Rickie Fowler ($8,000) – even with the MC last week, he can catch fire on an easy course like this
- Kevin Yu ($8,800) & Chris Kirk ($8,900) – high end of the tier but both have played well here and Kirk seems to be coming into some better form lately.
$7,000 to $7,900
- Victor Perez ($7,500)
- Andrew Putnam ($7,600)
- Emiliano Grillo ($7,500)
- Cameron Champ ($7,200) – I like how he is trending
- Thriston Lawrence ($7,300) – Top 15 in 3 of last 4 events
- Tom Kim ($7,300) – we know the talent is there. He just needs to get some form back (maybe stay off social media) and play the way he can. Too cheap if he suddenly rights the ship this week.
- Ryo Hisatsune ($7,400)
Under $7,000
- Hayden Springer ($6,900)
- Zach Johnson ($6,900) – not playing as much but course history is too consistent to ignore him.
- Adam Hadwin ($6,800)
- Carson Young ($6,700)
