The AMBUSH – NFL Week 2

Week two, when the corrections occur  and you know they are going to occur, but the trigger is very hard to pull on them.  As I go through the games this week it just feels like the road team is the better team in a bunch of scenarios, but one where you do not want to trust them as teams find a way to get to 1-1 early in the season.  Plus, a big theme this year looks to be that we’re going to have some strong parity around the league among the 2nd/3rd/4th tier teams while the elite’s just roll along.

Overall I suspect most builds this week are going to be around higher priced Quarterbacks & Running Backs, with value at WR and TE.

When the field is zigging, we should zag, and given my long running belief that “QB” doesn’t matter in NFL DFS, you should be zagging here.

AMBUSH CORE PLAY

Patrick Mahomes (DK: $6200, FD: $7800) … Hard to imagine a world where Allen, Lamar and Mahomes all do not get 20 fantasy points.  Mahomes is the one who is looking at almost ZERO ownership though.  Sure, the Eagles dominated back in the Super Bowl, but I’m a huge believer that defending champions lose their first road game the next year & when its against the team who they beat and in this case Mahomes is just letting it fly this season we have a spot he could GO OFF without anyone touching him.  Gimme Mahomes magic naked.

ALSO LIKE

Drake Maye (DK: $5200, FD: $6800) … I will stay on the Maye train until it’s really dead.  The Dolphins are “really dead” as well & with cheap prices around Maye it will once again be the New England cheap passing stack that you can keep buying into.

As mentioned, paying up at RB this week is a likely chalk play.

AMBUSH CORE PLAY

Jahmyr Gibbs (DK: $7400, FD: $8300) … I’m not going to sell you on the Lions necessarily thumping a Bears defense that will get better and better over time.  But I will sell you on Gibbs getting the ball NON stop today. The touches alone make him worth playing at high ownership.

ALSO LIKE

Breece Hall (DK: $6200, FD: $7300) … This one has a limited ceiling

Christian McCaffrey (DK: $7500, FD: $8900) … Similar to Gibbs, he should touch it a good amount.  New Orleans has some speed on defense finally though, so don’t expect him to just be breaking ankles all game long.

Saquon Barkley (DK: $8000, FD: $9100) … Great correlation with Mahomes naked lineups on the other side.

So much depth presenting itself at WR this week that it’s hard to just come out and pay for the 7k+ guys, although I am not sure who on the Giants is gonna slow down CeeDee Lamb…

AMBUSH CORE PLAY

Chris Olave (DK: $4900, FD: $6000) … Olave has not scored in almost a full calendar year and is terrifying everyone whenever he runs a route for fear of going into the injury tent.  He knows this, Rattler knows it, and I would be shocked if Olave is not getting favorable down field throws in the vertical game today.  After being a chalk play in W1 his price is lower and nobody wants him.  Mistake.

ALSO LIKE

Brian Thomas (DK: $6700, FD: $7600) … Definitely want parts of Jaguars/Bengals today, both Thomas and Higgins are priced well enough to get a nice balanced lineup together.

SECONDARY OPTIONS

  • Tee Higgins (DK: $6100, FD: $7100)
  • WanDale Robinson (DK: $4400, FD: $5200)
  • Kayshon Boutte (DK: $4500, FD: $5500)
  • DK Metcalf (DK: 5900, FD: $6800)
  • Hollywood Brown

Sadly, no Bowers on the slate this week.

AMBUSH CORE PLAY

Travis Kelce (DK: $5000, FD: $6200) … He’s the top just because Chiefs are scoring 30 today.  Otherwise, I don’t mind taking a dart play on TE position.

ALSO LIKE

Evan Engram (DK: $4200, FD: $5000)

Dalton Kincaid (DK: $3700, FD: $5300)

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers (DK: $3100)
  2. Baltimore Ravens (DK: $3700)
  3. New Orleans Saints (DK: $2500)
